Getting Started
  • Create a profile on the community and invite any friends you think might want to join your virtual bookclub to do the same.
  • Start thinking about the name of your bookclub and how you might want to describe it. If your bookclub focuses on romance, literary fiction, or another specific genre, you might include this in your description.
  • Find an image or photograph that you think illustrates your bookclub. For example, if your club is for mystery-lovers, a spy glass might be the perfect choice.
  • Once your profile is created, sign in and select the 'create a group' link, and fill in the information required.
  • By using the privacy settings, you can create a group that is accessible only to the friends you invite to join or one that is open to the larger community.
Tips
  • Make the name and description of your bookclub clear so others can decide if they want to join.
  • Use our enhanced search to see if a group may have already been formed. Community members have created hundreds of bookclubs and groups on a variety of topics including favourite authors, book genres, manga, chick-lit and more.
  • Help spread the word about your group. Using the Search & Select button, be sure to attach the book, CD, DVD or toy you're posting about so people outside of Community can see a link to your group from the item's product page in other sections on chapters.indigo.ca.
  • Great ideas for bookclub posts are all around you:
    • - Did you see an article about your favourite author? Post it for your fellow members to read, tell them why you liked or disliked the article and where you found it.
    • - Were you chatting about a book just the other day? Share what you said.
    • - Did you read a cool post on your favourite author's blog? Share it in your bookclub.
Add and Attract Members
1. The simplest way to add members to your bookclub is to invite your friends in the community to become members. Sign into your profile and go to the main page of the group you wish to change. Select the "edit" link and invite new members using the features provided.

2. You can also attract new members to your group by keeping your bookclub a lively, interesting and safe place to visit. Adding new content in the form of posts, comments, polls and video will keep your members coming back for more. Additionally, if other community members see your bookclub and find discussions and content intriguing, they can request to become members too. Plus, existing members can unite their friends, too.
What to do?
  • Post meeting times and location, discuss your favorite passages, comment on other members' posts;
  • Insert books and attach comments;
  • Create polls and get feedback on which books to read;
  • Embed video from Youtube to share information about the book or related topic;
  • Upload and share photos of your bookclub meetings.
