What is the difference between Friends and Favourites?
Friends connect through common interests and diversions. Friends communicate via community interaction such as: adding comments to posts or reviews, sharing recommendations, and participation within groups or book clubs. Favourites are prominent people you are interested in, such as; authors and artists. By adding friends and favourites you will receive automatic updates on the activity of both friends and favourites.
How do I add friends and favourites to my profile?
There are several ways to add Friends and Favourites to your profile. To add a friend who is not currently in the community, login to your profile, and use the ‘Invite a Friend’ button located below the Friend & Favourites section of your profile. You can also add and search for friends and favourites by using ‘search in the community’ located in the right-hand upper portion of your profile. Alternatively, you can browse through the community tab, item pages, and anywhere community content exists to find friends and favourites. Please note that privacy settings may limit your ability to see the "Add to Friends" link for some community members.
How do I communicate with other community members?
Our approach to communication is similar to an open forum. You can post a note or submit comments when you send recommendations to friends; additionally, you can add comments to reviews, posts, lists and within your group or bookclub. Other members can also respond to your comments or notes, thereby creating a thread of commentary.
Can I send a message to friends and favourites?
When you request to add a community member as a friend you are able to send a brief message to accompany the request. Currently, you are unable to send private messages to community members you add as favourites; however, you are able to post notes onto another community member’s profile.
How do I know when I’ve received a friend request?
There are a few sources to find out when you’ve received a friend request. An email alert will be sent to the inbox of the external email address you used to create your profile, provided you have opted-in to receive these communications. Additionally, a message will appear in your Message Centre. Additionally, you are able to find new friend requests in the Friends & Favourites section of your profile.
What happens when I send a community member a request to be friends?
When you send a community member a friend request they will receive a message in their Message Centre, and see your request within the Friends & Favourites section of their profile. If they’ve subscribed to receive email alerts an email will be delivered to the inbox of the external email address they used to create their profile.
How will I know when my request has been received and approved?
When a community member accepts your friend request a message will appear in the recent activity section of your profile and a notification will appear in the Message Centre of your profile.
What happens when I add a community member as a favourite?
When you add a community member as a favourite they are instantly added as a favourite to your profile.
Can I send messages to friends?
Currently, the only time you are able to send a private message is when you request to become friends; however, you are able to post a note onto your friends’ profile. To send a note; log into your profile, select 'send a note', and look-up your friends name from your list of friends. Alternatively, when you are visiting a friends' profile you can select 'add a note’. Notes appear instantly.
Do I receive a request when I’m added as a favourite?
No, when another community member adds you as a favourite, you will not receive a request or be notified.
How do I know if someone has added me as a favourite?
You are able to see other community members’ friends and favourites through their profile information.
Is there anyway to stop a community member from adding me as a favourite?
Currently, there is no ability to stop another community member from adding you as a favourite. If you have an issue with allowing other community members to add you as a favourite, please send an email to:
community@indigo.ca and our community administration team will assist you.
How long will it take for a community member to accept my friend request?
Accepting a friend request is left to the discretion of each community member; however, the request will expire after 90 days if no action is taken.
Can I remove a friend or favourite from my profile?
Yes, you are able to delete a friend or favourite from your profile. After you login to your profile, select ‘view and edit’ located below the Friends and Favourite section. Once you’ve located the community member you’d like to delete from your profile, select ‘remove’ located in the bottom right-hand corner below their recent activity.
Can I recall a friend request?
Unfortunately, there is no way to "take back" a request once it has been sent.
Can I use my contact list from my external email address book to invite friends?
You are able to retrieve email addresses from Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo to invite friends to join community. You can do this by selecting ‘Invite a Friend’; which you can access once you’ve logged into your profile. When you select Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo you will be redirected to login. Your email provider will ask you to give permission to share your personal data with the developer of this service. We do not store or have access to your login information (this is why you are redirected away from our site). The only personal data we will collect is the specific email addresses you select from your contact list; which will use to send a Friend Request on your behalf.
