What are virtual shelves?
Virtual shelves give you the opportunity to visually display the books, music, DVDs and toys you're most interested in. For example, you can showcase the books you've read, plan to read or are reading. It's a fun and fast way to demonstrate who you are by sharing the types of media you enjoy.

How do I add items to my shelf?
To add items to your shelf while you are surfing chapters.indigo.ca, select the "add to shelf" link located beneath the image of the item on the product page.
You can also add items to your shelves through your profile. Simply sign in and use the tabs in the shelves section to toggle between book, music, toys and DVDs. Then, select the "add item to shelf" link. Once you've selected items using the "Search & Select Items" button, you can add ratings or write a short note or review. You can also use the drop downs to move items into different states on your shelf. For example, for books, you can select "Have Read", "I'm Reading", or "Plan to Read".

How do I edit items on my shelf?
Sign into your profile, and select 'view & edit' located below your shelves. You are able to move items, remove items, edit your comments, change your rating, modify the way the items are displayed, and change the shelf order.

How can I change the order in which my shelves are displayed on my profile?
Sign into your profile and select the 'view & edit' link located on your shelf widget. To reorder your shelves, simply select a number using the tabs provided. The first five shelves (eg. numbers 1-5) will be shown on your profile. You can have a maximum of seven shelves total; however only the first five will show on your profile page.

How do I remove items from my shelf?
Sign into your profile and use the tabs in the shelf section to toggle between book, music, toys, DVDs and your customized shelves. Select the "edit" link in the shelf section. Then use the "delete" link associated with the item you would like to remove.

How do I change the status of an item on my shelf?
You can only change the status of an item on your book, music and DVD shelves. Simply sign in and use the tabs in the shelf section to toggle between book, music, toys, DVD and your customized shelves. Then, select the "edit" link for the shelf you wish to edit. In the edit view, use the drop down menu provided with each item to change the status or state of the item. For example, with books, you can choose "Have Read", "I'm Reading" or "Plan to Read".

How can I see different views of my shelf?
You can see different views of your shelves and other members' shelves by selecting the blue icons located on the top right of every shelf page. You can select from three views: lists (this view displays your notes), thumbnail image and large image.

Can I add comments?
Yes, when you add an item you are able to add a comment along with that item. Additionally, you can comment about a friend or favourites' shelf - simply select the comment icon located beside the viewing options at the top of the self, and then select 'add comment'.

How do I customize my shelves?
In addition to the standard shelves for books, music, toys, and DVDs, you can also create up to three fully customizable shelves. With this feature, you're able to add any combination of items - even gift cards! For example, if you're a Harry Potter fan, you might want to create an 'HP Fan' shelf - you could add Harry Potter movies and soundtrack compilations, all of the Harry Potter books and even Harry Potter toys.

Can I move items between shelves?
You are able to move items between your customized shelves by selecting 'move item' in the editable view of your shelf. Additionally, you can move items from your books, DVDs, toys and music shelves to your custom shelves. However, you are not able to move items from your custom shelf to a standard shelf.

Who is able to see my shelf?
You determine who is able to see your shelf. Use the privacy settings to mark shelves as public, friends-only or private. To Edit Privacy & Email Alerts, sign into your profile and use the link called "edit Privacy & Email Alert Settings" located in the left-hand column below the area which has your interests and your photograph.

Who is able to comment on my shelf?
Your privacy settings determine who is able to add comments to your shelf items.

Can I remove a comment added to my shelf?
If you decide to remove a comment added to a shelf you’ve created, select the ‘delete’ located below the comment. Alternatively, you are able to report comments to the Community Administrator by using the ‘report this’ feature.
