Indigo recognizes that a truly holistic Corporate Social Responsibility program
encompasses both a strong environmental and community mandate. While
we have recently embraced this environmental journey and are diligently
working to improve our operational impacts on the environment, we invite you
to learn more about our community focus through Indigo's Love of Reading
Foundation.
The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation
The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation was established to address the
literacy crisis in Canada and support schools with their literacy programs in
the absence of appropriate government funding. Love of Reading provides
grants for the purchase of new books, learning materials and programs to
high-needs elementary schools.
Indigo is pleased to announce that on June 1, 2009, its Love of Reading Foundation was awarded the Retail Corporate Social Responsibility Award for a large chain by the Retail Council of Canada. Indigo founded the "Love of Reading Foundation" in 2004 to address the underfunding of public school libraries and the effect this has on literacy rates in Canada. In 2008, the Foundation doubled the number of schools involved in the program and to-date has committed more than $7.5 million to schools across the country.
