This is a really nice set of three hard-cover books. Well printed, colourful, and contained in a solid cardboard display box. Excellent professionally drawn illustrations on almost every page add real value to the content rather than coming across as hollow filler. Definitely gift quality, if you're curious.

I would have liked to see an errata supplement pamphlet covering recent rules changes, but perhaps 4e is too new. The discussion of skills challenges is really weak, as well. This is a new feature of 4e, so more care should have been taken to really clarify it.

A 30-day trial of the subscription-based web site they push several times would have been a nice touch as well, given the price of the books. The absence of that can hardly be held against the books themselves, though.

(Edit: The ad for the web site at the back of each book does in fact mention a 10-day free trial on the site. I believe it's a subscribe-and-we-won't-bill-you-if-you-cancel arrangement, though.)
