A Walk To Remember

by Nicholas Sparks
As told by: Nicholas Sparks

September 1, 2000 | Mass Market Paperbound

There was a time when the world was sweeter....when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he''d been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he''d fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town''s Baptist minister....Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living. The inspiration for this novel came from Nicholas Sparks''s sister: her life and her courage. From the internationally bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, comes his most moving story yet....

    Typical Sparks

Landon Carter is a teenage boy in North Carolina in the 1950s. Jamie Sullivan is the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. Jamie is sweet, religious and a 'goody-two-shoes'. Landon is the 'bad boy'. Boy meets girl. Love. Problems.

Typical Nicholas Sparks book with lots of romance and love under trying conditions. This book is for those who want a easy read with lots of love and want to shed a few tears in the process.

A Walk to Remember is Landon Carters story from the year he was seventeen. The story is told as Landon, now fifty-seven, revisits his past and the year that would change him for the rest of his life. His rememberings take us back to the year 1958 in the small town of Beaufort, North Carolina. He was a senior in high school with a solid group of friends and hopes of making it through a good last year and heading off to the University of North Carolina the following fall. But little did he know that it would be nothing like what he had expected. Landon would learn many leasons and be forced to change the way he looks at life. And what would cause this change was a shy, quiet girl named Jamie Sullivan that Landon had gone to school with since kindergarten. Jamie would be the one to teach Landon the true meaning of life, and most of all what it mean to love someone.

This is an unbelievably moving story of a teenag boy that is forced to face many strugles that many people never face as long as they live. It is filled with joy, heartbreak and most important of all love. This novel will leave you with tears in your eyes and a true appreciation for life. Sparks has truly created a story to remember.

I would strongly recommend this book. If you are someone who loves to read a good tear-jerker now and then I promise you that you will fall in love with this book. This is a sincerely great love story that you will not soon forget.
