About the Author

LISA BENDALL is the author of After Disability: A Guide to Getting On with Life and a recognized disability expert with more than 20 years experience in the field. For more than a decade, she served as managing editor of Abilities , Canada''s lifestyle magazine for people with disabilities. Her writing has appeared in national magazines and newspapers, including The Globe and Mail, Homemakers, Canadian Living, Reader''s Digest , and Today''s Parent . She is married to Ian Parker, an accomplished disability advocate who sustained a spinal cord injury 30 years ago and is quadriplegic. They live in Toronto with their daughter.
