Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she's been killed in a terrible accident.

Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, a strange man in the seat next to him introduces himself. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible.

He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever he the same...

Without doubt, Neil Gaiman is a very talented writer, and the underlying premise of this novel is highly interesting as well. The one negative aspect of this book however, is that it starts out at a fast pace that Gaiman is unable to maintain. There is simply way too much story, and between chapter anecdotes we don't need (one of which is 13 pages long). It's a worthwhile read though.

Be careful in saying that "we don't need" these break-offs and side-stories with provocative themes that Gaiman explores in this story, because you don't want to deter the people who crave it. I loved this book, and particularly because it was scattered so unconventionally with such things. I don't think he tried to maintain the fast pace, because the book in no respect is average and built on the formula that so many books these days do. If you take it more openly, embracing its eclectic nature and depth, I find that it's enjoyed much more. I definitely agree that it was a worthwhile read, but I doubt it can be gathered into a single premise or theme.
