This is the second book in the Mark of the Lion Series. I liked it even better than the first. It's set in first century Rome. This one follows Marcus, as he searches for the truth about Christianity for himself, having seen it displayed in the life of a slave named Hadassah. It also shows life, death, illness and disability in that culture. I loved it. It shows what people thought of Christians during that time, and how the early eyewitness testimony of Christ and the bravery of the Christians facing death made a great impact on the culture. It had as much head-hopping as the first book, but I was distracted enough by the story not to care.

Francine Rivers books are excellent. I first got the second one of that serie and appreciated it so much! Cannot wait to get the others to read them! Her writing is so inspiring. It gave me the desire to be, with the help of God, a better christian and be closer to Him. I certainly recommend this serie to all of you.

Actually, I am currently reading this book for the second time and have recommended it to numerous friends. This book has helped me to have better ideas of what it was like to be a Christian and non-Christian at that time. I can totally relate to the struggles they have gone through and have helped me to have better appreciation for the bible. It has also helped me to be more open and personal with God in my prayers. The author had totally captured the people's emotion and heart. I have read the whole series and would definitely like to read her other books.

This is a fantastic book! It gives a very realistic perception of what the character of a christian should be. It is very dramatic and most of all, I was personally drawn closer to God by simply reading this novel. It also allowed me to view the life of a christain in a light of love and helping others regardless of who they are. I would recommend this novel to anyone who wants to experience a soul thrilling and inspiring work of art. Thank you Mrs. Francine Rivers for giving me the opportunity to view the christian world in a light that I have never seen before.
