Hired to find some missing boys, Harper and her sort-of brother Tolliver come to a small community in the middle of an icy winter. Harper is an interesting character: after being struck by lightning, she has a kind of corpse-sense. She can feel where bodies are, and even sometimes pull up images of their death.

So, when she comes across a mass grave site for a twisted serial killer, she's understandably ready to vacate the city, her job to find the bodies is - after all - done.

Events conspire to keep her, and things get dangerous, fast. Soon she and Tolliver realize that a serial killer is not likely to be forgiving when interrupted, and she needs to work this mystery out before the next victim is herself.

The growth of the characters is always something I enjoy in a series, but I will admit to having some squeamishness with Harper's romantic interest - there's a dynamic there I find distracting. But the characters are strong, and the mystery in this book is very well done, with enough twists to keep you guessing.

    A great read!

Charlaine Harris write's the Sookie from HBO's True Blood. You may not know this work by her but it is as good as her Sookie works. It is a great murder mystery but the backstory gets in the way for a new reader to this group of works. Try to read the other books first and you will enjoy this one. If you have already read them then have no fear this work will be up to par with the others. A great read with Southern Charm!

    WOW!

Charlaine Harris is a new favourite for me. This novel, the third involving Harper Connelly and her challenging life, is a real CAN'T PUT IT DOWN. Harris is fantastic at creating very real and complex characters, with humour in the face of frightening circumstances and a little sex thrown in for fun! Anyone looking for an easy read that is exciting, interesting and frightening at the same time will LOVE these novels.

    "An Icy Cold Grave"

I really enjoyed this third installment in Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly series. I'm not into mysteries but the bit of supernatural, considering Harper's gift of finding dead bodies and how the person(s) die, gives it a nice little twist that detracts from a regular old "who dunit" . It's not a long drawn out story, like some authors would do and there's a surprise instore for Harper that I hadn't seen coming (well actually I didn't think would happen). As usual with Charlaine Harris, it's a rather short novel, about 280 pages, so one has to learn to pace one's self to make it last - I stretched it to 5 days. Also I found it a little creepy to read late at night, which night be a good thing, but that could just be me. Now I just have to wait for the next one! Enjoy!
