Mercy is back in this sequel to "Beg for Mercy." She's a woman with
a strange gift - the ability to 'press' people into doing whatever
she tells them to do (which has gotten her into trouble in the
past, especially when angry). Last month, she killed the only other
person like herself she's ever met, in order to save the life of
her friend.
Mercy has opened a hypnotherapy office, and between her skills as a
hypnotherapist and her gift, she is a success. A woman running a
shelter for abused women asks her if she'd help out there, and soon
Mercy is in over her head with violent men, her own secrets, and
someone might end up dead. Again.
Mercy is a strong character, and enjoyable to read. Her worry over
whether or not she's even human is a good element, and the story is
enjoyable even when it's dark. You get into her head easily - how
tempting it is just to "fix" people, or to force your own way when
you have good intentions. Her relationship with her boyfriend is
written well, and I enjoy where Andrews chose to move the plot. I
hope we get more Mercy, soon.
