Angels & Demons

by Dan Brown

Simon & Schuster | June 26, 2001 | Trade Paperback

An ancient secret brotherhood.

A devastating new weapon of destruction.

An unthinkable target.

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries-old underground organization -- the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra. Together they embark on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and the most secretive vault on earth...the long-forgotten Illuminati lair.

    Better than Davinci Code

I read this book awhile ago when I started reading all of Dan Brown's stuff after the Davinci code, and this one is by far the best book. This book was non-stop action from start to finish, and that is not an exaggeration. I remember thinking all through the book that it would make an amazing fast paced movie, and low and behold, one is coming out! I just hope that they stay true to the book. If they do, that movie should be great. It is definitely worth the read, you won't be able to put it down!

I totally agree that this is the best of the Dan Brown books. Have you read James Rollins' "Map of Bones" or Matthew Reilly's "Seven Deadly Wonders"? You would probably like them too. Seven Deadly Wonders is non-stop action. If you are the type that can't put a book down right in the middle of a good part, you will end up reading it in one sitting.

    Angels and Demons

Dan Brown successfuly combined science, religion and consperacy in a suspenfull tale using historical facts. The ongoing struggle between religion and science have been combined in this book not as good verses evil but as the human ambiguity the the question of why. Though throuout history the Catholic church has held an enormous influence on society, Dan Brown brings to light what his characters in Angels and Demons attempt to stiffle; weather science or religion find out the answer to the question "why", inevitably the same conclusion will be had by both. Science and religion are two different perceptions striving for the answer to "why", even though religion bases this ambiguity on faith and science on impirical values.
