The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook

by Kate Macdonald
Illustrator: Barbara Di Lella

Oxford University Press | April 1, 2003 | Hardcover

Inspired by the most famous of all Canadian children''s books, L.M. Montgomery''s Anne of Green Gables, this cookbook combines easy step-by-step recipes with charming watercolours of Anne and her friends, and quotations from three of the ever-popular Anne books. Never before have good things to eat and drink been so successfully derived from cooking episodes in children''s literature. From ''Poetical Egg Salad Sandwiches'' to ''Anne''s Liniment Cake'' and Diana Barry''s Favourite Raspberry Cordial'', these delicious treats will be fun to make - and they''ll be sure to turn out well because they were kitchen-tested by a twelve-year-old who had perfect results!

    Enjoyable!

This was one of my favourite recipe books to pore over when I was younger. I have since lost it, but only recently found again one of my brother's favourite recipes: Anne's Chocolate Goblin Food Cake. My family laughingly called it "Indestructible Cake" because we dropped one and it bounced and remained intact - and yet it was tender and moist and delicious! The book itself is charming, the recipes lovely and perfect for mother-daughter kitchen time. I definitely recommend it for any girl interested in learning to cook who loved Anne of Green Gables.
