Art Deco Architecture in Toronto: A guide to the city’s buildings from the Roaring Twenties and the Depression combines the elegance and flair of a coffee-table book with the practical information and occasional anecdotes of a trusted guidebook. It was recognized with an Award of Merit in the book category at the 2010 Heritage Toronto Awards.   In keeping with the populism of the Art Deco design style, author Tim Morawetz has written the book in a friendly and accessible manner to appeal to a broad audience, from interested laypersons to serious Art Deco aficionados.   Following a Foreword by eminent Toronto architect Eberhard Zeidler and an introductory essay by Paul G. Russell that sets the social context for Art Deco in Toronto, the book clearly defines and illustrates the three variants of the Art Deco style of architecture found in Toronto: 1920s Deco; Streamlined Moderne, and Stripped Classical. The main body of the book is divided into five sections – Office Buildings, Commercial Buildings, Civic Buildings, Apartments & Houses, and Movie Houses – showcasing a total of more than 70 buildings with written descriptions and mostly colour photographs with informative captions. The book concludes with maps showing the location of the existing buildings; biographical information on all the Canadian architects whose works are featured; a glossary and bibliography; plus a list of Art Deco-related websites and organizations.
