Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Well Written Book I love Awake and Dreaming so much... I read it five times in a row! It's also a very well written book; inspiring to go and write my own book! I've read all of Kit Pearson's books, but overall: Kit Pearson is a very good author.

Rated out of 5 by from A Touching Story Before Twilight was even published, my all time favourite book was Awake and Dreaming. This is a touching story about having the hard life: a poor little girl, Theo, with a single parent who has to pan for money. But when a sudden wish gives Theo a new family, you'd think there would be no way things could go bad again. But then it does, and all of Theo's new family, new clothes, new friends, disappears, and she's back with her poor mother, Rae. But there's something new, a ghostly figure that Theo meets in the graveyard. I really LOVED this book when I was little, and I still think of this story once in awhile. I would recommend this book to everyone learning to grow up.

Theo is around 9 years old when Rae falls in love with a man named Cal. Rae moves in with Cal but Cal hates childern so Rae sends Theo off to Rae's sister Sharon in Victoria. While Theo is on the ferry she has a nap and when she wakes up she is in the Kaldors home. Her dream home. Two boys, two girls. But then Theo's life with the Kaldors started to fade.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awake and Dreaming The main character is Theo, an unhappy girl with a single mother who acts like a teenager, makes Theo dance on the streets of Vancouver for money, and is more interested in her new boyfriend than in her. Suddenly, while on a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria to live with her aunt, Theo finds herself in a new family, the Kaldors - a perfect, wonderful family with 4 kids, and they completely accept her as one of them. A dream? But it goes on and on for months. Then slowly it begins to fade, and she is back on the ferry, and begins another new life with her aunt and thought that is was all a dream when they went on a tour of Victoria and found out that all the things that happened are all little parts of her childhood memory pulled into a story. She finally meets with the ghost, Cicely, who is trying to write a book and somehow as Cicely tries to write, it is actually happening. She never wrote the book because it was all so perfect so she threw it away and that is why she began to fade. T

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awake and Dreaming (Kit Pearson) Hi I'm Manisha. I am 11 years old and I think from experience that Awake and Dreaming is the best book I have ever read. Usually when I'm reading books I skip a few words because the book I'm reading is so boring, but there's something about the way that Kit Pearson writes her books. If you read this book you will know what I mean. All books were so boring until I read this book. So readers, if your looking for a book to read I highly recommend Awake and Dreaming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awake and Dreaming This book really opens up my eyes every time I read it. It makes me think of the less fortunate, and wonder if I've been taking my life for granted. Theo is a wonderful character, and when I read this book I feel I'm her going on a magical adventure. My favourite part is when she comes home with Anna from downtown, and thinks that her mum is going to hit them. I loved when Kit Pearson describes Ben and Lizbeth snuggled up next to Theo listening to her read, with their warm sticky bodies.I really highly recommend this book to anyone who likes magical adventures, with a realistic twist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awake And Dreaming is the best book Awake and Dreaming is a magnificent book and was a real lifetime book. Theo got a dream while on the boat on the way to Victoria. It was about, Theo adopted by the Kaldors, which was a good and nice family. They treated Theo like part of family. The Kaldor kids, showed Theo around Victoria. It showed a lot of feelings and emotions between people. Rae was not showing any responsibilities for caring about Theo. This book taught me a lesson. Always take responsibility for things you have done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect on many levels After reading Kit Pearson's Awake and Dreaming, I am amazed at just how many lessons could stem from this book. This is a terrific novel for anyone who would like their child or student to reflect on what it might be like to have less. It is an ideal novel for building empathy and for discussions on how one might feel in that situation. Additionally, the book stimulates the imagination in a way that can be the same for no two people. Pearson draws on ideals of the perfect family yet anchors them in reality with this well written novel. You really do have to read it to enjoy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kit Pearson's 'Awake And Dreaming' I think that this book is excellent, and should be part of everyone's home libraries. It is woven around Theo's poverty stricken family, with a mother that seems like she doesn't care, and a young girl striving to survive, and make friends. Theo is just a little bit of everyone in this world. We have all had our troubles, and in this incredible book, Theo has had double that many. This book describes a very poor chilhood, up until Theo's irresponsible mother falls in love. Then she is sent to Victoria to live with her Aunt Sharon. On the ferry, she meets the Kaldors. They are Theo's greatest dreams. A perfect family, a family of four. Then, by an unpredictable twist of magic, Theo is taken into the Kaldor's hearts and home. She is their sister. Things go smoothly, until life once again, reaches out to rock Theo's boat. At first she just seems to fade. All of a sudden, she is back on the ferry. It was all a dream. This book is lovely, filled with twists, and delightful little bits. Altogether, Kit Pearson has created yet another masterpeice. This book will not be forgotten for quite a while, as it is both charming and alluring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The book touched me in many ways the book was touching I though that theo had to go threw alot. Her mother was a very bad one, and left her. I like the way Kit pearson had had theo dream about the famly that she meets later in the book. Some of the experince theo has like her mom makeing her dance was the harsh facts that some people have to go threw. The book opened my eyes and made me relize alot more people are in worse situations then me and it made me realize that I'm not the only peson in the world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a non-stop read I read this book because it was on i book list i was to read in the summer. i picked up this book and was immediately intranced. I expected to spend 2 weeks and read a little each day but it was to good to put down i ended up finishing this book in just over two hours because there wouldn't have been one place in this book where i wouldn't have wondered what would come next. This book is full of so many twists the ending was totally unpredictible - a problam with many books today. I recommend this book to anyone who want a book that you can really get into and feel like you know the caracters. Another nice feature is that the book is set in Vancouver so any one that is familar with that area know all the land marks they are refering to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Read this book, you'll love it! Creative, yet very interesting is how I'd describe this book. Its realisitic, but not in a boring way. Kit Pearson combines real life and a touch of her own writting 'magic' to this story. Before reading this story make sure you have nothing else to do, and a big comfy chair, as this book is a quite a page turner. The neat thing is whenever I finsh reading this book, I want to read again right away, even though I know exactly what is going to happen. This book is just that powerful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awake and Dreaming I think Kit Pearsons newest book, Awake and Dreaming, is one every kid should read. It opens up your eyes to how poverty stricken people live, and how the kids cope. Mixed in with that is a mystery that gives you an urge to turn each page faster and faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awake & Dreaming Every once in a while you find a book that refreshes your love for the written word. In the spirit of Little Women and Anne of Green Gables, but thoroughly modern, Awake and Dreaming is a breathtakingly beautiful story of a sad and lonely girl who wishes for happiness on a new moon. The issues and characters in the story are real but it has a magical quality to it. I read it out loud to my children and there were moments we all had to stop and catch our breath, and moments when chills ran up our spine. A story all little girls should read, as well as all of us who used to be a little girl.
