From the Publisher

Brothers Owen and Alex Collins are brought together when mental illness claims their father and sets off a chain reaction of unrelated, heart-breaking events. Both tender and bold in its delivery, Away from Everywhere cuts no corners in telling the story of their crushing childhood, the reasons the brothers become different men, and the unthinkable act of love that tears them apart. Nearing thirty-five, Owen is plagued by childhood demons, the ghosts of failed relationships, and a persistent feeling that his life lacks meaning. When Alex arranges for Owen to stay with his wife and family, what feels like a new beginning becomes one last wrong turn.

Part warped love story, part family tragedy, Away from Everywhere is a heart-stomping pageturner.

From the Author

From the Critics

"Gripping from page one, Away from Everywhere is a finely crafted novel from one of the most talented young writers to come out of Newfoundland in recent years."
-Kenneth J. Harvey, international bestselling author of Inside andBlackstrap Hawco

"This emotionally wrenching story made me cry. It also made me lament not having written it … A fascinating and tender portrait of a soul in torment. The text is articulate and lyrical."
- M.T. Dohaney, award-winning author of The Corrigan Women

"Away from Everywhere pulls at the live filament between father and son ... [and] with lifetimes worth of blood, violence, delusion and broken love, this is no redemption story."
- Kathleen Winter, award-winning author of boYs

"It opens up in the aftermath of a car crash, and does not let up from that brutal, mid-crisis opening. Away from Everywhere is dotted with slamming phones, speeches regretted after-the-fact, and the pain of silences."
- Ashley Fitzpatrick, The Telegram

    Great Read 5

This is a really great book. I found myself putting it down often so I wouldn't read it too fast and be done. The characters were well developed and I've found myself wondering what has happened to them since finishing the book. Mr. Pelley has such a grasp on love, marriage, motherhood and the way family has such an impact on your life that I found myself wondering how much of his own life experiences have been woven into Alex, Owen and Hannah. I will be recommending Away From Everywhere to… read more

    A writer to watch! 5

I've read this novel twice. Chad Pelley is young but writes like he has been writing for 50 years. Away From Everywhere gave me goosebumps. How someone can transform the events in this novel into words without ever having experienced them is amazing. I can't wait to read his next one!

I can't wait to get my hands on this novel! I've heard nothing but good things and if the summary on the back in any indication of what this story holds, consider me blown away before I even read it.
