Axis Mundi Sum

by D.A. Smith

Invisible College Press | January 1, 2004 | Trade Paperback

Brainwashing! Computer hacking! International intrigue! Psychedelic drugs! Female secret societies! Fringe science! Chinese beer! Walking corpses! The Goddess of Confusion!

All the staples of fun and conspiracy meet, shake hands, and get into fistfights in Axis Mundi Sum, a novel where conspirators of all stripes try to further their own ends and make sense of existence. Would-be journalists, freelance criminals, monomaniacal monarchists, dead Taoist sages, sci-fi speedfreaks, computer code fascists, Discordian potentates, lazy college students, Egyptian gods, and more engage in gunplay, mind control, phone phreaking, sexual coercion, disinformation, and other dirty tricks in order to gain the upper hand over anyone they can with mixed, but always hilarious, results.

In a world where someone is pulling everyone's strings, and it seems there is no escape from the hidden hand of shadowy powers, the only thing that might set you free is good old-fashioned absurdity, and Axis Mundi Sum is the place to find it.

Have you ever wondered what the subconscious mind of an American author looks like? The characters that drift in and out of his waking mind, begging to be brought to life. To be set free in another's subconscious reality.

I found this book very entertaining. I recieved this book courtesy of The Invisible College Press via Mini Book Expo, which sends out books to be reviewed. It caught my attention with the promise of conspiracies, feminist secret societies, dead taoist and psychedelic drugs. And did it deliver? Yes! Did I know what Chitlins was before I read this novel? No. And no thank you. My only problem was minor spelling mistakes throughout the novel. But they were not nearly as random as the amazing imagery they created within my head.

Because sometimes life needs a little random. Escape to Dave Smith's reality with Axis Mundi Sum.

P.S. to Dave Smith, if you happen to come upon this, I would like to keep my eyes in my sockets where they belong. So if this IS a breach of your copyrights, I will remove this review, no sawdust necessary.

You definitely haven't violated my copyright, so fear not. Glad you liked the novel; it was fun to write, even if it was a rather sprawling mess that could've used an editor. Chitlins are a lot better than they sound, trust me. -D.A. Smith
