Balloons! They are the favourite playthings of Princess Leora. When her father, the king, goes to a neighbouring kingdom to participate in a tournament, he tells Leora to signal him with balloons if anything goes wrong. But the archduke, planning to take over the kingdom, promptly locks the princess in her room and orders all the balloons in the kingdom to be popped.

With the help of a wizard and a boy with the only balloon left in the kingdom, Leora is able to plant a balloon tree that blossoms into thousands of balloons. But will it be in time to save the kingdom?

This is one of my favourite children's titles. An refreshing story, this fairy tale has it all. Fun, fantasy, love, a princess, an evil villian, a whole lot of balloons and great artwork come together to create magic.

When I saw this book on the reader's choice list, I was thrilled. I haven't thought about it in years, but as a child, this was one of my favourite stories. Wonderful, colourful illustrations and a charming story line. This definately holds a warm place in my heart.

The Balloon Tree is an awesome book, with phenomenal pictures! The story is great! I absolutely loved it, and I'm a 13-year-old! I strongly recomend this book, along with any other of Phoebe Gilman's books--namely, The Gypsy Princess.
