I'm loving this masterpiece graphic novel! "Batman The Court of Owls" is an awesome fun of a read! It's like Batman: Year One for the new generation! First and foremost, I just want to say that the artwork of this feature is extremely arresting. Every panel is meticulously designed with great extensive care. The artists' Greg Capullo & Jonathan Glapion wholeheartedly invited the readers to immerse themselves in this beautifully scenic Gotham. The writing is sharp! I'm glad to hear intelligence coming out of the mouths and minds from all the colorful characters. Mr. Scott Snyder has seduced me with his clever dialogue; they often embody confidence, wits, charm, charisma, fun and downright funny banter. I also noticed that this creative team pays homage to some of the masters; storytellers/artists of Batman. I really enjoyed the cartoon-like art in some of the early pages, which echos the works of Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb. I saw some strong Frank Miller's references in the art and flashback imagery from Batman Year One. There are some striking panels that screams The Dark Knight Returns! (Look for it!) It's when Batman is being tormented and becomes enraged! I also picked up some of Grant Morrison's chaos & madness when Batman is outnumbered and takes-on many of his psychotic enemies at the same time. It is a great delight to be apart of this homage, where follow artists compliments each other through their work. As a reader and an audience, I felt a great sense of belonging, admiration and respect, being in on something that was understood within the Bat-community. I feel the love, lol!. o_O It was truly thrilling to see "Batman: The Court of Owls Volume 1" revisiting the roots of Bruce Wayne as a well-meaning philanthropist. Furthermore, I was intrigued how this piece also revisits a little more of the detective side of Batman (aside from all the awesome crime fighting!). In this case, Batman investigates a ruthless new enemy that shows no remorse. A natural predator of the Bat, you guessed it! An Owl! (Genius! Mr. Snyder! Genius!) OH! I almost forgot! The BAT-GADGETS! There is nothing like high-tech weapons for the new era! Facial recognition, lip reader, re-animation scanner, on-site lie detector, even a simple magnet that changes the tides in battle! All in good fun! I believe this exciting debut has been a great way to re-introduce Batman in the New 52, for both passionate fans and newcomers alike. Mr. Snyder I hope you continue to entertain us with your humor, sharp-wit, thrills, chills and inventiveness. Looking forward to Volume 2! Excellent Read & Highly Recommended! I've been a long tim Batman reader, ever since I was a wee lad and reading my dad's old comics, I was hooked. There have been a lot of great stories for the Bat-family and some not so great! I read it all. From "Knightfall" to "Battle for the Cowl" many writers have come and gone, in my opinion no writer has understood and created a more entertaining story than Snyder with "Court of Owls" his fresh take on Batman and his mythos has formed a well written world for the entire bat family, the influence over their place in the DCnU is profound. This is the core Bat-book. The first arc has everything you could want from a Batman story, Mystery, adventure and a new enemy (a truly creepy one). The court has ties to the new and old, being a core part of Gotham it's almost as if the city its self is coming up against Batman. Snyder handels this book to perfection and the art is dramatic and beautiful! I can't believe the level of care and skill that has gone into these pages and of the New 52, its the best of the best. Here it is! The New 52's first novelization of The Batman is here and lordy lordy it's a good one. Scott Snyder is back again writing another amazing story, one that takes us to the edge of Batman's limits, both physically and mentally. If you havent been keeping up with the individual issuses, here's your chance to get caught up. Court of Owls is beautifully written and drawn piece of art. It'll leave you wanting more.
