From the Publisher

A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright-a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever-ruined-unless I can break the spell.

Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.

Her other books include Breathing Underwater, an ALA Top 10 Best Book for Young Adults, Breaking Point, Nothing to Lose, Fade to Black, and Diva. Awesome modern fairy tale! 5

This review is from: Beastly (Hardcover)

Truthfully after the first few pages I was tempted to stop reading this because normally I am not interested in reading about guys like this. But Kyle turned out to be an interesting character to read about and I think I prefer this story to the original Beauty and the Beast. He does, at one point in the story, start talking like a character from The Phantom of the Opera and become quite stalker like, but I think that added to the authenticity of his character. It was also really fun to compare… read more

    Retelling of a Classic! 4

A great retelling of a fairytale story! Kyle Kingsbury has it all. He’s handsome, rich, all the powerful friends anyone would want. Though he’s selfish, greedy, and cruel to all people he thinks that are “beneath” him. Though one night that changes. Kyle invites a girl to the prom, knowing that he would never go out with a person like her. While there he gives the girl at the door a rose because his girlfriend didn’t want it. When his “date” does show up, he makes out with the girl he’s with… read more

Modern Take on Beauty and the Beast 4

This review is from: Beastly (Hardcover)

This is set in current day New York with teenagers as the main characters. It is set from the Beast's perspective. He gets cursed by a witch after he treats her badly and proves he is a superficial stuck up snob of a rich kid. His dad dumps him after doctors can't fix him, and he ends up in a huge brownstone with a maid and blind tutor. The witch, Kendra, stays invovled through out the story with the enchanted mirror. I really liked it, and it had a great ending. I enjoyed how everything tied… read more

    Awesome read! :D 5

I've always loved Disney's Beauty and the Beast, so I was excited to read this book, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. It was interesting to see it from the Beast's perspective. I loved being able to see what got him into the situation, and how he changed during his time as the beast. He was angsty and easy to relate to because he has doubts just like everyone else. He transformed in so many ways, and by seeing the story through the Beast's eyes we learnt the lesson along with him. The way… read more

    Beastly 4

Beastly is a modern day version of beauty and the beast. I loved this book all the way through. Kyle Kingsbury goes to a private school and is one of the most beautiful, popular and shallow people there. Then one day he invites this girl who he thinks is a 'freak' to the prom when he already has a date, just so that he can ditch her in front of the whole school. That freak turns out to be a witch and turns him into a beast, but because he did one good deed before being transformed she gives him… read more

Nice modern take on a classic tale 4

This is a modern take of Beauty and the Beast. The story is told through the eyes of Kyle Kingsbury, the Beast. This books is a rather quick read, although in the first half of the book, readers may know who Beauty is, but she's barely in the Beast's life. He can see her by using the enchanted mirror, but the first half is more about him dealing with his curse and his growth as a character from the transformation. There are many versions of Beauty and the Beast, although Disney's version is… read more

    Great book 4

What a great new updated twist on Beauty and the Beast. It shows what life as a teenager right now is like, especially when going through stuff at school or at home. I couldn't put this book down because I just had to see what happened next. This book has finished being made into a movie so read the book first then go see how the movie compares.
