From the Publisher

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that''s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn''t have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she''s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town''s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

    Good twists. 4

This book was a well writen one. And the imaginative characters, creatures and powers were amazing. I like how all of your questions are answered by the end of the book. It had a very very nice touching ending. But...I think something else should have happened. Just one thing. I'm not going to tell you what, but if you read the book and ever want to know ask me. Ethan and Lena...nice names. I havn't read a book with a character named Ethan in it, let alone the main charater. Even if I have… read more

I Can Understand Why It Was "Heather's Pick" 4

This book was great! I wasn't too impressed with the ending [I was expecting something different (and better, in my opinion)] but it was a wonderful book regardless. I loved Ethan's character, and Amma and Lena were pretty cool, too. It leaves room for a sequel, but I'm not entirely sure how you can top that. The story kept throwing all these crazies twists and turns, leaving you thinking "well this is different... and I kinda like it" =]

Drawn in instantly, and stay that way. 5

I was instantly full of curiosity when I began reading this book. Those kinds of books are such a treasure to find, where you crave more answers and more info. There is the perfect balance that makes you curious, makes you question things, and the answers are revealed in great timing. Very interesting, with the right amount of supernatural to it that makes you say "something just isn't right here....theres got to be something more". A great way to spend some time in a book

    Pretty Good! 4

I'm usually not a fan of teen/supernatural romance books. but this one had lots of mystery and not too much mushy. the history of this area is really interesting and the authors did a good job of making it an integral part of the story. my only wish (and its always the same for good books) is that it was longer or there was a sequel!!!

    A Magical, Unique Story. 4

This was a great book, that didn't disappoint. I loved the fact that instead of the usual mysterious guy entering town and the curious girl getting to know him...it was the opposite. Ethan is the main character, and the story is told from his point of view. Ethan is a great character that lives in the very small town called Gatlin. He lives with Amma, who has raised him all of his life, and his father who keeps to himself and stays in his study room all day; writing until the sun comes up and… read more
