The basis of this book, a gutsy girl meets a dark and dangerous
guy, the two are thrown together to overcome some obstacle and end
up having a steamy good time, is the same sort of set up as many
other paranormal romances - think Kenyon, Ward or Adrian, but that
doesn't mean it wasn't a good read. The twist in this story is that
it is about witches. Darcy is a young woman who finds herself
kidnapped by a what she perceives to be, no matter how sexy, a
lunatic, who thinks she is a witch and who wants her to remove the
curse that is killing his little sister. Well, it turns out, Axel,
the lunatic, is right. Darcy is a witch. Only problem is, since she
just found out she is a witch, she doesn't know anything about
spells or witchcraft. While Darcy races to unlock her powers, Axel
has his hands full keeping her safe from the rogue witch hunters
that are trying to kill her.
This was a fast paced read with plenty of action (both horizontal
and vertical). The main characters were interesting and likeable.
My one complaint though is that at the beginning of the book, I
felt as confused as Darcy did, like I was missing some background
information. Lyon eventually fills in the gaps as the story moves
along. This book is obviously a set up for a series which I imagine
will follow each Wing Slayer as they get their wings (you'll have
to read the book to know what this means) and their girl. The next
book, Soul Magic, comes out November 2009. I'll be along for the
ride. Yee-haw!
