Being from a formerly-prominent family in Manhattan does nothing for her social ranking at school especially with Mimi Force, the Queen Bee at Duchesne, around. But when one of the popular girls in Mimi's group is found dead and drained of blood, suspicions start circulating and Schuyler is determined to find out what is going on before more people start dying, much to the dismay of everyone else who is denying that anything is wrong. This first book was like Gossip Girls meets vampires, in the most fun sense of that comparison. I had always wanted to read this series, and always figured it was some light fluff fun... socialites in New York City with some vampires thrown in there, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! While a good chunk of this book focuses mainly on 3 different girls in this upper-class privileged world trying to figure out what's going on with themselves and around them, it definitely takes a more dark and sinister turn once the mystery of the dead girl plays out. Interspersed among the chapters were also diary entries from a woman that came over with other soon-to-be settlers on the Mayflower. As the present-day narrative unfolds, you also get a glimpse at the bizarre occurrences that transpired in 1620, how it ties in with the lives of Schuyler & Mimi, and more insight into the history of those who have lived through many centuries & call themselves "Blue Bloods". The vampire mythology that De La Cruz has created is so unique and refreshing, especially knowing that she had come up with the idea for this series before the Twilight vampire craze. Between the glitz & glamour, fashion & luxury, Blue Bloods sets up this 7-book series with just enough extravagance and intrigue to keep readers wanting to find out more. I really enjoyed this book, the charatcters, realtionships everything. Also it gives a great discription of New York throughout the book. I like how Schuyler is definatly her own person, and dosen't give a hoot about being popular. I also enjoyed the authors twist on vampire's normal story. This book has a little of everything love, fashion, history and of course mystery. If you have the change this is a must read.

This series has interesting, well rounded characters and is a different take on vampires that hasn't been overdone. I like the story lines, and the setting. Worth a look. If you are into art and the fasion industry, you'll like these quite a bit.

This book was creepily addictive. I had trouble putting it down. It was knew, original, and easy to get into. Sure one of biggest thing you notice is the fact that it's a vampiric Gossip Girl, but De la Cruz writes the novel so well you don't notice anything wrong with it. All in all, this book was fabulous.

I loved that this wasnt your typical vampire novel, where the stereotypical things are in play. This one was different, Much different. It all started off when europe was coming to settle in North America and most of the blue bloods(vampires) came across to settle this new land. but while they developed this new land some would change form when coming back from "death" and others would keep their form and never renew the cycle. In present day, Schuler van alen is a reject a school and dresses like a bum compared to her duschene classmates. Her only living relative is her grandmother and her mother whose been in a coma from almost birth. She is best friends with Oliver and Dylan, who has recently joined the two outsiders. They all mae great friends until Dylan mees Bliss, one of Mimi forces best friends(mimi is the most popular girl in school and likes to annoy schuler). But this where things turn for the worst. Schuler and Jack force, mimi's twin brother who is he male hottie, have found that something or someone is hunting them and young vampires and draining them of their blood entirely and thus ending theirs lives. This book is amazing i read the first one and second one in two days, just couldnt put it down! A definete must read for anyone who loves vampires or wants a good sci-fi type book.

OK I'm speechless this story is awesome, it is like a mix of Gossip Girls, history, and Vampires that don't shine (not that I have anything against it). I really enjoyed that if you were to put Vampires in New York I can see the reality to this book. So on to the main character Schuyler (which I didn't know how I say it until recently I saw somewhere that it was SKY-Ler). Schuyler is an outcast the "reject" I hate that word, but it totally fits, she's the girl in the background with one friend Oliver, mother in a coma, Grama who's is just plain weird isn't it just the perfect fairytale?? Mimi is Manhattans "B" a word that I will leave only to one letter, and should not be stated. Mimi is the popular girl with some mystery to persona, and she has one weird relationship with her brother James.James I have to tell you something "Oh James you came and you caught my heart" the man of mystery the vampire Hottie. James may be Schuyler's only hope to be normal lol I'm JOKING!! :) Bliss is the out of town-er who is trying to fit in, but with the wrong crowd. Oliver Schuyler's BFF I dunno, but there's something that rubs me the wrong way with him. These characters are all different and all with their own personal mystery. I adore this book from start to end it caught my heart after chapter 2. This book had great transition I was never confused on what character point of view it was. This book was well written, and the cover to die for. I'm actually thinking of getting the UK book as well I think I like the cover better.... Weird I know. If you like mystery, vampires, and drama then this book is definitely for you. Any vampire fans will love they way this book is well written, unique having a different view on vampires, and just the characters they are so easy to like. I bet each character will remind you of someone you knew or know presently. I adore vampires they are my weakness, I am now addicted to Blue Bloods..... Oh no I'm honestly yet to understand how I'm going to afford an addiction like this. As I said before I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes Vampires, Drama, Mystery, and some Historical background to the idea of vampires origins.

all the books suck they are slow starters and they are always changing sides and the author writes this FIRST book as if we should know what is happening and some of the names are quite hard to say..........so sorry to the people who like this book......but.........i think it SUCKS alot >_<

The novel is a pleasant and fast read, but I was more interested in the lore than the setting. I am not fan of designer name-dropping and the fashionista-style chick-lit, so that was sometimes the kind of thing I skimmed through when reading. It appeals to a lot of readers, but at least it wasn't overly detailed or run-on. I was far more interested in the novel for the simple aspect of the lore and mythology that De La Cruz has created in the Blue Bloods universe. She offers up an interesting take on vampires in that they are in fact just the reincarnated spirits of people from a time long-gone. I loved that the characters remember bits of their past, that it's all revealed to them as sort of a "coming-of-age" moment and ceremonies. I am also a fan of the mystery surrounding the lost colony or Roanoke. It was worked in so nicely here, with the author providing her supernatural take on what really happened. While it took some getting used to, I think De La Cruz made a great choice in changing up the character POV every so often. We get so used to reading YA novels from one perspective and cheering on the one character, that it was refreshing to see the different characters from their own eyes. It made for a great change in style. I reccomend the novel as long as you're willing to get past the Gossip Girl-esque moments.

at first its kind of slow but once you get past the first couple chapters your golden, Such a good series.

I enjoyed this book, the beginning was a little slow but once you read more, it definantly got better. I thought it wouldn't be a very good book, because when I started reading it talked alot about fashion, and not really enough about Vampires, but towards the middle of the book there was way more about the "Blue Bloods" (Vampires), which made me want to read more. The characters were cool, some are a little spoiled and snotty, while others were cool and mysterious. I really liked the whole idea of being a "Blue Blood", it was awesome, and made the book really interesting. The mystery in this book is what really makes it, you're always wondering what's going to happen next, and what you seem to know and think about the characters changes, when parts of the mystery are revealed. Overall, it was an enjoyable read, I really liked the way the author wrote this book, The fashion in it lightened this read, while the Vampires in it darkened each page. I look forward to see what happens in the sequel, The Masquerade!!
