What a delightful exploration of the mysteries of small town legends, complete with busy-body social workers, self-important local cops and devoted pigs who just happen to be a damn sight smarter than most of the two-footed variety of animals you can observe from the bench in front of the Royal Bank! Fortunately, I still have a few years to get my driving up to the Old Boys' Code, and to find that elusive whatever that will qualify me as Old.
Leacock and Donald Jack finally have company.

I have to admit, this is one of the best books I've read in a long time... The characters are so hilarious and yet so genuine. You can't help but begin to put faces to them of people you know in your own life... It's a very hard book to put down and yet a perfect read for the chronic bookworm like myself, yet an easy to follow, enjoyable read for the people out there that only like to pick up a book from time to time...

Keep up the good work Mr. Britt, I can't wait to get a hold of your next book...

First of all, if you are from a small town, lived in a small town at one point in your life, or drove through a small town at any speed approximating the limit you should read this book. It is not so much a story book, or a book of philosophical meanderings put together in a cogent sentence structure, as a survival guide to rural towns everywhere. Also if you are old, or plan on being old at some point in the future, or know someone who is old; this book will be an invaluable resource. It is a deep look into the psudo-psychology of the aging mind. Which is to say... all of our minds. If you are irritable, cranky, or cantankerous, this book will give you new ways to express those valuable emotions. If you seek enlightenment.... this will help you practice reading. In fact, the only reason you should not read this book is if you could not read my review. The very fact that I have not mentioned anything about the book actually speaks volumes of what this book is about... now... if you are confused.. I am sure you would be less so if you actually got the book and read it.

From the Publisher

A study in time of old men and the things that they do. In a town, like any town, there is one man that is different. This man is in search of an extinct creature, and in search of himself.

From the Jacket

In th lazy hazy days of old boys, life is a case study of human nature.
They are there, the octogenarians and septuagenarians, retired men from farms and business that gather on benches outside of banks and the town halls to theorize on life.
The old boys study the passage of rite of Bob, into the world of the old boys.
Bob reluctantly falls into the old boy's club, all the while searching for what is elusive.
Into bob's world enters an extinct forty-foot marine reptile, that lives in the local bay.
To satisfy his curiosity, Bob begins his fishing venture determined to capture the elusive Ichthyosaur.
A fishing story, an old man's story, a story reserved for all of those men deserving of being anointed old.
Each and every person is searching for their own Ichthyosaur.

Quotes:
Even in my own life there are similarities to the references of the old boys. I am one that congregates on the park bench and theorize about life. I enjoyed reading the book and laughing at myself through the eyes of the author.

What a fishing adventure. I was captured into the world of the old men.
