Break No Bones

Kathy never lets you down! I look forward to her new novels and will read them two or three times as I enjoy them so much! Sometimes I blame her for not getting enough sleep. Oh well it's worth it!

Another great book in a great series.

Another great crime novel by Reichs, though I was a little disappointed with the whole "urban legend" basis of the story... seemed a little too cliché for me.

This is the series the new TV Show 'Bones' is based on. I love the TV series, but the books are always better. Tempe Brennan again kept me enthralled in the mysterious cases she is involved in. And then there is her personal life... While this story is based in South Caroline, Tempe also works part-time in Canada, and it is fun to catch the 'Canadianisms' throughout the story. If you are a Kathy Reichs' fan, you don't want to miss this one. If you haven't read Reichs before, but you love CSI, Cold Case, Without a Trace or Quincy you'll want to read Reichs.

Dr Temperance Brennan's work brings her and her archaeological students to an ancient Native American burial ground near Charleston. While there they uncover a decomposing body in a shallow grave.

Why was this body buried in a clandestine grave? And what does the unusual hairline fracture and condition of the sixth vertebrae signify? What began as a simple project turns into a heated homicide investigation when three more bodies are found. While investigating, Tempe crosses paths with her estranged husband a lawyer on business in Charleston. Matters become more complicated after her boyfriend arrives from Montreal, she is forced to put all distractions aside in order to solve the crimes.

Ms Reichs has her own style of writing, short and choppy sentences. The plot is good but seems a little far fetched and stretching reality, some descriptions implausible in my view. For example sharing a girlfriend's house with her estranged husband and her boyfriend at the same time…??????. This novel is a decent enough thriller, but it lacks style and passion. If you are a fan you will never the less rejoice seeing our heroine once again up to her armpits in muddy water, foul stenches and dead bodies. Not her best book but if you are interested in forensic thrillers you may enjoy this one.

This was my first Temperance Brennan book by Reich's and I have to admit I wasn't blown away or overly impressed. I did find it interesting enough to get through and will probably read more of Reich's books in the future, however I will hope that the next I read will spark me a little more.

I wasn't thrilled with this one. I've read all of the novels in Reich's series, with the exception of Cross Bones, and I have to say that Deja Dead still ranks as number 1. This one was the only one that I didn't have a hard time putting down. Her newest novel, Bones to Ashes, is PHENOMENAL though. You need to read this one first in order to follow along!! I love the Ryan-Brennan side story. In this one, Pete throws a wrench in the spokes of Tempe and Ryan's unstable relationship! Overall, I would say its a good read, but not my favourite. I was more interested in the love triangle than I was in the mystery itself....

Temperance Brennan is back in this taught thriller. Working a summer teaching job on the shores of South Carolina, Brennan finds herself in the middle when bodies keep turning up, each connected to the previous. After being disappointed with Cross Bones, I am pleased to find Break No Bones as good as the previous books. Another solid entry in the Brennan series.

It was a nice twist to not be in Montreal, couldn't put it down. Wanted to know who done it. Ryan and Peter were bound to meet and at least there was some humour in it, can actually see the two of them doing just that. Cannot wait to read her new novel Synopsis coming in August/September.

I've read all of Kathy Reichs' books and eagerly awaited this one. I was not disappointed, although I missed at least part of the book being set in Montreal. I always miss her Montreal collegues, LaManche, Claudel, Charbonneau, but especially Det. Andrew Ryan. This books seemed more personal and allowed for some growth for both Tempe and Ryan. I didn't care for the estranged husband angle and hope Tempe comes to her senses. And all the while Tempe is going through this personal stuff, there is still a great mystery to be solved and danger around the corner. There is technical info but I don't think it detracts from the story at all. The plot flows nicely, in other words. It's a great read and I can't wait for the next book.

Very good. Nice blend of suspense, intelligence and humour. Who will Tempe eventually end up with? Much more relaxed and enjoyable than recent Patricia Cornwell.

Every year Kathy Reichs releases her latest book right before my vacation. This book was worth forgoing the beautiful sun and warm temperatures. I turned up the air conditioning, grabbed my favorite blanket and lounged on the couch. Kathy Reichs is my favorite author and this book did not disappoint. The only thing that disappointed me was the locale. I really enjoy it when her books take place at least part of the time in Montreal as that is my home city. I enjoy driving down the street in old montreal and seeing the streets through her descriptions. The book was fast paced and easy to follow. I was a little disappointed with the attraction to her ex-husband as I really love the love/hate relationship with Tempe and Det. Ryan. I'm looking forward to the next book.......until next summer....I hope.....it can't be too soon.

As expected, another great book from Reichs. I couldn't put it down, read it in two days. For those who like a little bit more on the side of a love stories, Tempe's relationships are more deeply explored in this book than any of the previous, but that in no way takes away from the main plot of the book. Great, great book. I gave up a wonderful Saturday afternoon/evening just to read it all.
