I found that this tale revolved around the classic eternal battle between good and evil. It is mainly revolved around religion and certain battles one goes through with their own. It starts off with an average girl, with an abusive drunk father, a quiet mother, and 4 other sisters. Being the eldest of the bunch, she upholds great responsibility in this house hold. She lives a routinely life - which changes abruptly when she has her first experience with a boy - Derek. She begins her personal battle of lust vs. love. As her relationship dies, she loses faith and acts out. Because of her personal changes, she is sent to her aunt for the summer. There she learns the true meaning of acceptance, and finds her true love - Ethan. It begins as a slow relationship but quickly turns into a passionate love that one can only read about and scream AWHH. I can guarantee that this is that kind of novel. But unfortunately, the summer cannot last forever. So she is sent back home, where she finds that due to the pregnancy of her mother, her father turns his abusive ways towards her sisters. She stands up to her father many times, but to her surprise she too finds herself carrying Ethan's child. The end of the book is sad, and makes the reader want to cry - there is an accident. So as it happens, the main character, Pattyn, is left to face a troubling decision alone. At the end of the novel I found myself a little confused and bewildered, but it is clear that the author left the end open for the reader to fill in the blanks; determined by their own minds.
