From Our Editors

If life is a play, then many people fail the audition. But life, in its many different forms, goes on. George Murray presents a cast of characters who try to perform their way into heaven in Carousel: A Book of Second Thoughts. In this collection of poetry, a group of unforgettable characters hang by a thread, all trying to bluff their way into heaven and eternal peace. This is the first book of poetry from Murray and will inspire readers with its fresh new voice.

From the Publisher

At times satirical, ironic and tenderly sincere, this collection charts the wandering course of faith by examining the death records of a diverse cast of characters. Presented as eulogies, elegies, obituaries, and panegyrics, these poems explore the cyclical nature of belief and loss, living and rebirth, with lyrical regret and narrative celebration. Fragments of memory, excerpts from longer stories told and retold: this is how we remember.

If you don't read this book you'll get cancer and die. Or perhaps you'll be mauled by a lion...and die. And then you'll be sorry, because you won't even know how or where they'll bury you! Don't know what I'm talking about? Read the book. It's dark, funny, technically accomplished. Here is a new poet writing poems that will change the way you thought you thunk about death. Dazzling.

A wonderful first collection of poems. Murray's keen eye and smart observations make this a truly smashing debut.
