Carpe Corpus: The Morganville Vampires, Book 6

by Rachel Caine

Penguin Group USA, Inc | June 2, 2009 | Mass Market Paperbound

In the small college town of Morganville, vampires and humans lived in (relative) peace-until all the rules got rewritten when the evil vampire Bishop arrived, looking for the lost book of vampire secrets. He''s kept a death grip on the town ever since. Now an underground resistance is brewing, and in order to contain it, Bishop must go to even greater lengths. He vows to obliterate the town and all its inhabitants-the living and the undead. Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. But even if they defeat Bishop, will the vampires ever be content to go back to the old rules, after having such a taste of power?

    Another Great Installment!!!!

I don't know what's left to say, once again this was another installment that did NOT disappoint...Page one right until the end has you grasping the books, leaving you never wanting to put them down. I absolutely love the characters along with the plot that just keeps getting better and better, again, this book was fast-paced and filled with non-stop action. This series has absolutely everything you could ask for; action, romance, mystery, revenge, Vampires (evil and good), bravery, strength, and characters that will do anything and everything for each other.
I defiantly recommend this series without a doubt, The only thing bad I'd have to say about this series is that is literally impossible to put the books down!!...well it's not that bad but still. :)
Once again, I'm left dieing to read the next book, which is now Fade Out!!!

Claire and Michael are working for Bishop, Eve's on the other side, and Shane's back in the cage, never a dull moment in Morganville. I highly recommend this series, it's very good. 30/1000

I really do enjoy this series but this book had me totally torn :(. I really loved the new "Development" with Claire's relationship, and think those parts are great. I also really enjoyed how they beat out Bishop...very clever. BUT....The vampire computer..hmm...that is a bit weird, and couldn't really get into that much. Especially since anyone who offered her blood seemed to get her to do what they wanted. I liked the twist about Jason, however felt Dean's character left me like HUH...So all and all, still love the series, and can't wait for the next installment, but defiantely not my favorite in the series.

Well they're back folks…this is the sixth part of the Morganville Vampires series…and it shows. Yes all our favourite characters are there but this time they really do seem to interact with each other in a much better way. The improved tougher and more mature version of Claire our main character is back and this time she is...get ready for this ....finally seventeen. So miss goody two shoes isn't as nice as before but still as smart. Now that for me brings the story up a notch. Shane also grows up and stops being such a twit and matures into a man and he finally admits how he truly feels about Claire. Now for the rest of them they all kept their good and dark side which makes this series stand out. Yes Myrnin is also there and again as special a character as ever. Just love how this one ticks or tocks because he is one unique good guy, bad guy, villain and hero.

Well the story starts a bit latter on than in the last book. Claire has that weird tattoo that compels her to obey Bishop. Michael has been turned into a vampire and seems to be working for Bishop also. Shane and his dad are prisoners and Amelie and her troops took a beating and are into hiding. As for Myrnin well he is still as crazy as before. So things aren't really going to well for the town folks.

So the first part of the story it's mostly Claire trying to save Shane from being executed alongside his father while in the background Amelie fights to regain control of the town. The second part of the book is all about the different tactics that Amelie's camp uses against Bishop and the same for Bishop's camp. Both sides are sneaky and as usual in this series many turnarounds. It makes a great and interesting read. You will not get bored with this one because there is always something going on or added or simply a complete 360 in the story.

There is a new character added but nothing is explained about his past or even future. All we know he could be a man or a woman and Merlin hates him. I would have wanted to know the reason behind the hatred but maybe that is kept for another chapter in the series. There is also an added character in the form of a wooden computer with a living brain that makes it function. This thing actually needs blood to work. OK I understand the feud over a Mac or P.C. but honestly a vampire computer is something I could have done without. All in all it's still one of my favourite in the series. If you read the others don't miss out on this one and if you have not read any, well put them on your must read list these are really different and interesting.... AND.... no cliff-hanger ending which makes it unique in the series.

    Another Kick-butt Edition

This is the sixth book in the Morganville Vampire series, and Claire finally turns 17! It's about time, is all I can say to that.

So Rachel Caine decides to change it up a bit in this novel. First off, this story doesn't start exactly where the last one finished. There is a small gap, but the time lost is quickly filled in with a few sentences or so.

Second, the book doesn't end on a giant cliffhanger. It leaves you with the feeling that more is to come, but after all the anxiety in this story Claire finally gets her break.

Third, and possibly most importantly, Claire makes a mistake. It's a potentially fatal mistake and I'm still not sure how she made it. Since this happens towards the end, I won't say too much about it, however I will say that she deserves a good smack for her stupidity. She figures out who the person is but can't seem to understand that the person is guilty. It's just not a mistake we expect from Claire.

This book is great from start to finish...

Great review and as you know this is a MUST read for me. Thanks for the no spoiler and no OMG OMG it's the best book in the world.

thanks Rogey :) and PS i copied from Notepad and it kept the paragraph formatting - so it worked! as for the "no spoilers" well i can't wait to see if you catch her fatal error as it happens. I certainly did

I finally got it to work also. I copied to words 2003 instead of 2007 and it worked.

As always, Rachel Caine grabs us into Claire's problems and life in Morganville. The sixth book in the series, Carpe Corpus was another great read full of plot twists and action. The only thing that could have been better was the beginning, which I found a bit slow at first, but it definitely picked up speed around the middle. Can't wait for Fade Out! :)

Book 6 in the Morganville Vampire's series has Claire still under the control of Bishop, via the funky moving tattoo on her arm. As usual, Claire is fighting to protect her friends (Eve, Michael & Shane) and the town of Morganville. She is also fighting to make sure Shane and his father are not executed by Bishop and his follwers.

first off i would like to say that i loved this book, but i was a little confused with the tittle of it. what does Carpe Corpus mean anyway? And also the vampire computer was a little strange and sounded like the kind of thing that a little kid would come up with. i was very happy that Shane and Clair finally slept together, i was waiting for that to happen since the firts book. overall this book seemed to tie up a lot of loose ends and i am looking forward to what Rachel Caine will come up with in her next book Fade Out. i doubt that it will be as good as Carpe Corpus though. : )
