Carl Wilson's book on Celine Dion: a journey to wasting energy & precious paper

Can you imagine spending so much energy on hating someone...??? And what a waste of paper as well. The Toronto Globe & Mail journalist Carl Wilson has certainly better things to do than a campaign of hatred against Celine Dion. It is everybody's absolute right not to like an entertainer, it is a question of taste but to spend precious time to disrespect someone to that extent boggles my mind. Why can't he recognize her achievement? After all, Celine Dion is one of the very few who went so far in record sales and show attendings. Can't we just be happy for her and most of all respect her fans...??? But of course, especially in Canada, we accept someone who has talent but can't tolerate if he or she is successful. Pity...

When the editors of Continuum's 33 1/3 book series rejected Toronto music critic Carl Wilson's initial pitch to write a book on Pere Ubu's Dub Housing, they asked him to come up with a "less obscure" album. Wilson upped the ante considerably and chose one of the top selling albums of all time - Céline Dion's Let's Talk About Love. For Wilson, it was a chance to boldly examine his own taste and the socio-economic divisions that music fandom is built on. We cultural studies fiends may be drooling, and it will be really fun to see what insecure hipsters and actual Dion fans make of the book when it's released at the end of this year.

I've only read an advance excerpt (It's not out until December) but it looks like it could be the book of the series.
