Cell: A Novel

I read Cell for something to do. The blurb on the cover made it sound good, so I started reading it. I'd read other books by King such as Cujo, Misery, Insomnia, Thinner, and Under the Dome, but this was probably the best King book I've read in my life.
Unlike his earlier books, he introduces new characters and challenges as the story progresses, whereas most of his other books had two or three (or, in Under the Dome, 50 plus) characters that were used throughout the entire book to solve the issues faced.
There are different characters introduced, different characters killed, and the story keeps going and is very interested. If you could only read one book by Stephen King, let it be Cell!

This book flies out of the gate with a story that starts like a car wreck and never slows down. The story is amazing and it never let's you down for a second, amazing thrill ride!

a wonderful beginning \ terrible middle and the worst ending of a book I've ever read

This is one of the Stephen King books where I was so into it, I couldn't put it down.

The premise of the book was quite off the wall, as can be expected of Stephen King. I really felt for the characters and hoped that they were going to make it. My only issue was the ending. Nothing really ended up being explained, and was all left up in the air. Otherwise, great book, worth the read.

Okay, so it isn't EXACTLY zombies, but it's still pretty close. I have read it about 3 times (yeah, I love it that much), and to me, it just never really got boring. Still, to thoroughly enjoy it, you might want to have a basic interest in psychology and things of that sort, because it has a lot of that, as well as theory on the so-called "Phone People." Though, personally, being the... creepy kid I am, I found it hardly scary, but thats what I thought of all of King's other works. But if you like a more intelligent quasi-zombie read, this is for you.

Looks like King has run out of ideas. Starts out great, very catching, and you would think would build towards a great climax-but that just doesn't happen. King could have done way better that this. I think he gave up after page 150. I'm a big fan of King, and this isn't the way a legend should go out-writing garbage.

I love Stephen King's novels and, being really intrigued by the premise of Cell, I decided to pick it up. I ended up being disappointed.

The first few chapters are excellent, really edge of your seat type reading. I felt like King had returned to the "glory days" of Christine or the Shining! But then it just kind of fizzles. The middle section is boring, with very little action, and the ending is a slightly annoying kind of cliffhanger / non ending. Add to that the fact that I wasn't really scared at any point and it just adds up to an ordinary story. It's not a bad one, just not one of his best.

A great story of survival and Stephen King keeps you rolling and on the edge of your mind from the first chapter. Although I must admit the story gets dragged on in the middle of the book, where nothing really is happening to develop the plot. Yet, indeed a great read if you like the realms of Sci-Fi and fiction with a twist.
A huge pulse goes through every cell phone in the world and drives the people saying hello to answer, to insanity. The survivors now need to find out whats going on and constantly trying to keep themselves alive. Although a little out of the ordinary, Stephen King does a great job describing each detail as if you were one of the survivors travelling along inside of the novel. And you feel great sympathy for the characters and their loses.
I recommend this book because it is a intensely packed action adventure that most will love.

Cell was one of those horror stories that seems like an instant classic - which it may be. The narrative style of limited third person omniscient gave the story a much more real feeling, rather than just third person omniscient. The book kept the readers enthralled throughout, and the ending kept the readers wanting more. I feel the book would have been less impactful if the cause of the "Pulse" was revealed or if we had learned more about the ending. The only thing I have to complain about is the haste at which the novel concludes, but other than that, it is an interesting, action-filled story that leaves the reader wanting more. Excellent work Mr. King.

It started out with a bang but fizzled out and ended up strange and hokey like a Dean Koontz novel. Still, its well worth your time even if you just read it for the first 200 pages and then throw it away.

While the story may seem like yet another 'end-of-the-world-what-do-we-do' saga, there are some very interesting theories brought forward. While they don't seem solvable or explainable in a one book format, the story leaves lots of room open for another - if that's what Mr. King was thinking about. It was easy to feel something for the characters and hope for the best for them so to me it was worth the time it took to read. I was left thinking that I'd see those characters again, down the road a ways.

Poor "science" ie. no reasonable reason why, how or who would carry out the damage. Unsatisfactory ending. Useless "hand-written" text from NEXT book.

A great novel from Stephen King after a bit of time off from his classic writing style. Highly recommended. The ending was, yes, very predictable and didn't quite fit in to the twists and turns of the rest of the book, almost as if King just wanted to end it. Still, well worth picking up.

Stephen King has written a wonderfully gripping novel and an absolute must-read! It's a real page turner!

Reading the newspaper and critic reviews I was more than tempted to bring Stephen King back into my basket of great authors to read. Cell seemed closer to the style of King's other great classics and I was drawn in. Sadly it wasn't all I expected. There were definitely glimpses of Tommyknockers and The Stand, but the ending was too predictable. I am glad I read this novel, but it will not become one of my all time favourites.

Once again, Stephen King creates a terrific, and terrifying story. Is a great read.

It's been brought up a couple times that this novel doesn't have a solid conclusion. You don't actually find out if "good" triumphs over "evil" for sure. If anything, it seems to be a start of a larger story. Conclusion (or lack of) aside, the story has a rather fast pace beginning. The beginning is vivid enough for me to paint a clear picture of utter chaos in the street of Boston (even though I never actually been there). However, just because the fast pace beginning starts to slow down, the need to continue the story remains. "How did the protagonists adapt to such a bizarre and life-threatening situation?" There are other questions too, but to voice them could possibly spoil it for other potential readers.

Generally, This was a good read and kept my interest rather well. It was creepy enough to give me second thoughts about using my cellphone! I find it teaches a lesson of sorts about our reliance on technology. The downside to the novel (in my opinion) is the conclusion is somewhat lacking, but it does push your imagination to really work itself...if you really want to know how it ends, that is.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who uses their cellphones too much *wink wink* and just about anyone else that are Stephen King fans, interested in "what if" scenarios and modern-day science fiction.

This book will be making you think "What if?" Stephen King has created another masterpiece by joining the end of the world to one man's small, but to him, important mission. There are great characters and some really scary moments in the book. A must read!

Well readers, King has come back and done it rather well. This an interesting read that will have you giving your cell phone odd looks. As you may guess the story is about cell phones gone wrong and an unlikely cast of people who while trying to stay alive end up, in my opinion, heros. Only someone who does not own a cell could write a book like this. This book earned it's place on the bestseller list and an honored place on my bookshelf.
