Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

by Jr, Bill Martin, John Archambault
Illustrator: Lois Ehlert

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers | October 1, 1989 | Picture Books

A told B, and B told C, I''ll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.

In this lively alphabet rhyme, all the letters of the alphabet race each other up the cocunut tree. Will there be enough room? Oh, no - Chicka Chicka Boom! Boom! The well-known authors of Barn Dance and Knots on a Counting Rope have created a rhythmic alphabet chant that rolls along on waves of fun. Lois Ehlert''s rainbow of bright, bold, cheerful colors makes the merry parade of letters unforgettable.

    Just the right rhythm

This book is absolutely wonderful for kids. My son got it when he was 2 and he still loves it not that he's 4. We even bought a new copy as ours was read to pieces. The pictures and colours of the book are perfect for youngsters to catch their attention. They can point out the letters and helps learn sequence of the alphabet as well. The rhythm of the words is unbeatable and easy to learn and memorize. Your kids will want to read it again and again and again.

This book is great for teaching the concept of the alphabet without it feeling like they are being taught the alphabet.

Both my children love this book. It's colourful and the rhyme is fun, it's easy for kids to pick it up and before you know it they are reading along with you (my son can't read yet but he sure knows what's next).

Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

A new classic for young children

I bought this book because of its colourful, jazzy illustrations and catchy rhyming verse, although I was a bit worried that my son would not appreciate the simple cut-out style pictures. Happily, I was wrong. Not only does my son consistently break into peals of laughter upon hearing how, "M is looped, N is stooped, O is twisted alley-oop", but he requests multiple readings every night, and insists that he sleep with the book so that, "it won't get lost" (like the other books mommy is forced to hide temporarily because after about the 150th reading, she goes insane).
