Don't miss The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, soon to be a major motion picture in theaters August 2013.

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder-much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing-not even a smear of blood-to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

I thought I would never be into the science/fiction, fantasy type books. But I was completely wrong, and too quick to judge. I'm definitely glad I gave it a chance. I know there is a lot of rave about this book, and many people either love it or hate it. Everyone has their own opinions. It really depends on what type of person you are, and what type of books you normally read. This could be way out of your 'norm', but you can't knock it until you try it. This was an amazing adventure to a different world. This story was full of action, drama, fantasy, and most of all LOVE. It's beautiful from beginning to end. Cassandra Clare's writing style is truly what tied the novel together. She chose to excite the readers with heavy words, and strong sentence structures. Clary was an amazing character, and not just because she's the main character. But because of the heart behind everything she did. She was cautious, but she never thought without the desire of her strong-willed heart. Jace was a great character in his own way as well. At first he seemed so hot-headed. Of course as the story progressed, he started to open up more- only because of Clary. The most surprising part of the book was near the ending. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse. I was secretly rooting for Clary and Jace to be together. Although they did end up together, it just wasn't the way I had hoped for them. It will definitely be a hard adjustment for them both, but they are both very strong, and the love they share is strong enough to keep them together.
