I originally heard about this series because of the movie trailer and it looked interesting. I love reading the books before I actually see the movie. The book had me hooked from start to end. The story line is amazing and the characters really came to life for me. Jace and Clary's love had me screaming in excitement a lot. The end was a huge plot twist. I continued the series and I am now on City of Glass! I'm in love.

I begun reading this novel not knowing what really to expect. I thought if I watched the movie trailer I'd have the basic idea of what the novel would be about, but the trailer only left me clueless and thinking it would be another Twilight saga. I started reading, and soon enough I found myself loving it!! This book is original, haunting, romantic, and enticing. Weekends and weekdays were dedicated so that I could squeeze a few pages-chapters of this novel into my day. This novel was worth the read.

This book started out with the feel of another 'twilight' story which I wasn't crazy about but the second half of the book actually had a great back story with interesting twists and by the end I found myself wanting to read more. I will definitely keep reading the series it they continue to be as good as this one

It`s valentine`s day, woohooo, happy holiday JACE! I am quict enjoying reading this book, but sometime my brain isn`t quick enough to pick up words that come from no where, the creature names, the weapon names, the shawdow hunters etc... =P

not as good as i thought it would be. most of the reviews on chapters say it is a great series. normally i believe the reviewers but this was a little childish for me. i just couldn't get attached to the characters except for simon. i thought clary and jace were typical and nothing unique. i really wanted to get excited for the following novel, but i will not be moving forward with the other books. plot is predictable and uninvented. character are dull and a dime a dozen. there were some points in the book were i was zipping through- most noteworthy was the climax. i think you can skip this series if you are looking for originality. i recommend it to readers who like the twilight series.

If you have not read this series yet, get on it! A beautiful world with beautiful characters. Cassandra Clare is in a league of her own. And Jace...

The first novel of a crazy addictive series that i know you won't be able to put down

I love Twilight, Hunger Games and many more of these series that teens seem to fall in love with but this one did not seem to appeal to me but a friend recommended it. Instantly I fell in love. This book is in my top 5 for sure, no competition. Can't wait till the rest of the series is out. Write faster Cassandra Clare.

When I first saw this book, I looked at the cover and I though that I wouldn't like it. Yes..... I sometimes judge books by their covers! Many of my friends recommended this book to me and I thought that I should read it! Once I read the first few chapters, I couldn't believe how AMAZING it was! I recommend this book to everyone because it is fantastic and you will get hooked into the series just like I did!

It has been so long since I read City of Bones, the first book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, that I completely forgot what happened in it. However, I felt that I should reread the series since I still haven’t read the fourth book, City of Fallen Angels, that came out a while ago AND the fifth book in the series, City of Lost Souls, came out in May. I had thought the next three books after the initial trilogy would be a spin-off series, but now I hear that they continue on with the same characters. So, that meant I had to reread them. I should probably also say that I’ve read City of Bones three times already, so it was time to dig out the audiobook. I love this story. I remember when it first came out, I said the whole series was way better than Twilight. Listening to it, I still hold true to my claim. Cassandra Clare is such a wonderful writer, who draws you in from the first pages. The world of the shadow hunters is mysterious and magical, and how can you not love Clary and Jace? City of Bones is about Clary Fray who is out at a club with her best friend Simon one night in New York. Little did she know that while they were at the club, she would witness a murder. But it wasn’t any normal murder. This is her first encounter with the shadow hunters and a world that she had no idea existed. When I first read the series, I was enthralled. I consumed all three books within a week and then immediately started re-reading — and I’m not really a re-reader. Not only is Cassandra Clare an amazing writer, building such an amazing shadow-hunter world and developing some great characters, but she is also pretty awesome at writing story and plot-line twists. Even listening to this now — the fourth time I’ve heard the story — my jaw was still dropping. So many crazy things happen! There’s also some great humour in these books and you can’t help but laugh. I mean, there’s demons, murder, and bad cooking (on Isabelle’s part), that you have to laugh sometimes. I felt that every single element that Cassandra Clare included was so well-balanced that it makes for such a smooth, easy read — not a lot of downtime. As in my first reading, Simon annoyed the crap out of me, I adored Jace, and I loved seeing Clary enter this crazy world. The audiobook version is a little strange to listen to. It’s narrated by Ari Graynor and she does a good job. There are some male voices that take some getting used to, but after a few chapters, you can hardly notice that it’s weird. My problem with the audio is that Graynor makes Jace sound quite snarky and sarcastic all the time (yes, he’s already sarcastic a lot in the book, but even in his most honest moments, he sounds sarcastic). Clary can also sound quite whiny. I’m so glad that I’m getting back into this series and seeing how wonderful it is. This is the next series that I read after Twilight and it helped drag me into the world of Young Adult books and of the paranormal. I recommend it to anyone who might be interested in reading YA books, or just good books in general. I can see myself listening to this many more times!
