I love this book! I't one of the best books i have ever read!...Now i'm reading second 39 Clues book and it's just as good!...A good book for 3-12 year olds.

This is the first book in an amazing new series. In it the Cahill's family matriarch passes away. In her will she leaves one million dollars to each family member, or they can trade that money-order for a clue that will lead to the treasure that will lead them to become the greatest Cahill of all time. There are four branches in the family: Janus, Ekaterina, Lucian and Thomas. Each branch has its own strengths and weaknesses. Our story follows Amy and Dan Cahill, orphans who choose to take the quest. The adventure crosses continents and has clues hidden in art, architecture, music and more. This series will be unique in a number of ways. First, even though there will be 10 books in the series telling a continuous story, it will be told by seven different authors. Second, the website linked to the games has specific puzzles and games to play linked to each book. These games and puzzles are available only for a certain period of time. Third, each book comes with 6 clue cards; these cards unlock different things on the website. There are also supplemental card packs that can be purchased to supplement your clues. Scholastic is also giving away over $100,000 dollars to youth who solve the puzzles. The story begins with Grace Cahill changing her will and dying. Then at her funeral the challenge is set to discover the 39 clues. After that things get interesting, with Grace's mansion burning down, family members threatening each other, bombs - and that is just the beginning of the adventure. They will travel across continents, through catacombs, museums and much more. Dan and Amy are at a distinct disadvantage, for unlike the rest of their relatives, they are not rich, famous, or experienced. Yet they were also Grace's favorites and she may have been grooming them for just such a challenge. Yet you have to read to find out. This is a great book and a wonderful beginning of a new series. It is better than the Da Vinci Code, and will be a great read for people of all ages. It has great adventure, interesting scenes, places and puzzles. It is an absolute page- turner. I cannot wait to see what will happen next. The 39 Clues series is a marketting dream. The main characters allow for both girls and boys to connect, while providing buying opportunities every which way. This series is a really good read. I think that any 9-12 year old would like it. I know I did, and I'm 19. Parents should be warned that if a child gets into this series, parents may be forced to fork over bunches of cash - in addition to the ten books that the series is supposed to have, card packs are being released for the game.

Scholastic Canada selected my Grade 6 class to be a part of The 39 Clues adventure last November. Before this, I had never heard of the series. They sent each student a copy of this book and we read it in 3 days. The students were hooked immediately to the characters and the fast-paced adventure. We were a part of the podcast Whoopi Goldberg did with the author of the second book, Gordon Korman. We read that book in the same amount of time. I would compare the books in this series to The Da Vinci Code for kids. There is so much historical facts and events connected to fictional characters, that the reader is immediately searching for answers along side Amy and Dan. A great read!

Imagine being sent on a race around the world to discover and decipher 39 clues to the most important secret in the history of humanity. Then realize that all of your family is trying to find the same clues, and stop you from doing so. Fast, fun, and you can really win a prize if you are one of the first to solve the clues. Great book, Riordan is a truly great voice in youth fiction!

I started reading this book with my grade 2/3 class. We are loving every minute. They tell me what to write down and in what colour so "we won't forget anything". We have almost filled a complete chart paper. The children try to piece everything together so they can beat Dan and Amy. They have made teams and some teams play the game at recess. One boy told me what clue they were working on where they found the solution "under the pile of snow in the corner of the yard." Each child tells me what branch they hope they are a member of. Many of them have gone on the website to find out. As a teacher, I am thrilled to find a book that is so consuming to my children. They would like to spend the entire day trying to solve the mystery. I am astounded at the connections they make to things that they have already heard and their own knowledge. This is a very well done series. It is amazing how interconnected the book, website and trading cards all are. As an adult, it is also very exciting to try to break the many codes and solve mini mysteries. Bravo!

This book is considered to be for ages 9-13, but honestly, it’s a book everyone can enjoy. The fate of the world is resting on young Dan and Amy Cahill as they travel the world on a quest to find the secrets of their family history. They are up against several other Cahill teams, and have a few enemies outside the family as well. There are 39 clues to solve, and they are only given the first. Each clue leads them to more hints and they struggle to identify what exactly is a clue, and what is just a clue to the next clue. It’s bad enough that they are the youngest team, with absolutely no money and no ideas on how to proceed, but it appears everyone in the family is against them. All want to find the most powerful treasure and they are all certain that Dan and Amy hold the answers. They are told to trust no one. Amy has a phobia of crowds and she hides from people. She must gain strength and overcome her fears, and this is just the challenge to help her to do so. Her younger brother Dan, doesn’t always grasp what he’s supposed to be doing in this quest, but he’s great with numbers, puzzles and locks, he likes to collect things that seem useless but always come in handy later in the game. The two siblings are able to read each other’s minds. Well not really, but they are able to read expressions and communicate with ease, never having to open their mouths. I wish they’d use this talent more often though, you’ll see why once you read the book. The best part about this story, is how interactive it is. It comes with trading cards and a link to the website. Once you register, you are able to collect clues and solve the puzzle and ultimately have a chance to win a prize. I loved this book! I sat down and read it in one sitting. Amy and Dan are orphans who live under the guardianship of Aunt Beatrice who is scrooge-like and meanspirited. Grandma Grace is the only light in their lives. Then, Grace dies and offers the Cahill family two choices: a million dollars or the competition for a powerful prize. The catch? Only one can win the prize but all who compete must give up their million dollars. Amy and Dan decide to take their chances. They must find 39 clues scattered around the world that all link back to the Cahill family. The family's branches have been feuding for hundreds of years but the time is finally ripe for one to stand out. The first clue is about Benjamin Franklin and lead Amy and Dan to the catacombs in Paris (hence the title: Maze of Bones). Along the way Amy and Dan face various challenges; from being on the look out for Social Services (their really orphans now since their Aunt disowned them), various people trying to kill them, to trying to stay one step ahead of the competition. Saying much more than that would ruin the adventure of the book. Book one of the 39 clues ends with Amy and Dan discovering the second clue. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery, spy thriller, or just an adventure. Although recommended for ages 7 - 9, I think 10 - 15 would be more appropriate.

I love it and can't wait for more. In total there will be 10 books. Amy and Dan Cahill have faced much tragedy in their lives. Now they are on a search to find the secret of the Cahill family, the largest most powerful family in history. Amazing companion website that will entertain and educate while you wait for the next book!. The books and website are sure to give you endless hours of fun!

This is one of the best books I have ever read! I read it to see if it would be a good book for the library at my kids school and it was amazing. I couldn't put it down. Kids of all ages will enjoy it and it's a great history lesson for older kids as well. I definitely recommend it. I am hoping the next book does not take too long to come out because I can' t wait to read it.
