Cold Hard Truth: On Business, Money & Life

by Kevin O'leary

Doubleday Canada | September 27, 2011 | Hardcover

Kevin O'Leary shares invaluable secrets on entrepreneurship, business, money and life.

Can you make millions just by "visualizing yourself rich" as some business prophets suggest? Don't buy it, says Kevin O'Leary. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur and amass wealth, you're going to have to work for it. But the good news is: with the right guidance, focus and perseverance, you can turn entrepreneurial vision into lucrative reality and have the personal freedom that only wealth can buy.

Kevin O'Leary would know. The much-feared and revered Dragon on the immensely popular show Dragons' Den (and Shark Tank in the U.S.) started his company in his basement with a $10,000 loan from his financially savvy mother. A few years later, Kevin sold that company for more than four billion dollars. In this compelling, candid and, above all else, brutally honest business memoir, Kevin provides engaging, practical advice and lessons that will give anyone a distinct competitive edge.

    A Must Read

The book does not disappoint and is true to it's title - in fact, right from the inside cover the book stakes it's claim as a no-nonsense slap upside your head read taking a swipe other books and authors asking you to "visualizing yourself rich" - the book takes a brutally honest approach providing the steps, intensity and no B.S. approach necessary to obtaining all goals

Mr. O'Leary documents the valuable lessons he learned, sometimes humiliating, that made him take responsibility for his own actions in creating a four billion dollar business out of a $10,000.00 investment, working out of his basement - Mr. O'Leary was able to create his own luck and all success was well earned, surprisingly while suffering from dyslexia

Through the many great lessons provided you can easily avoid many of the pitfalls many entrepreneurs encounter - I believe this book is a must read for all students and most importantly those protestors taking part in the current occupy movement on Wall Street and other cities - if these folks had any idea of the amount of hard work and sacrifice, including time away from family, to become the 1% they rally against they would appreciate and perhaps be inspired to follow such a path - they can then make a real difference towards society or the 99% they claim to represent

I give this book my highest review - thank you Mr. O'Leary for for an excellent read, a book that that Ayn Rand would thoroughly enjoy

In closing, here is a my favorite quote: "Capitalism creates freedom, after all, and I can't think of a loftier, more important calling than that."

    Show me the money!

Yep, that's what Kevin seems to be doing the best - sniffing where the money are and making sure he gets there first!

Interesting story from the person who proudly says that a lot of people call him @$$hole and I think he is really proud of it.

Anyway, loved the book, will recommend for sure - makes you smile, makes you think and got a lot of lessons about the money.

My husband had picked up he Dragons' books for his business department at school. I just picked this on up to read over the Thanksgiving weekend. I don't usually go for this type of reading material, since I think it's probably dry. I was surprised that I couldn't put it down! Kevin's personality comes right through in the pages, and it's entirely amusing. The book also inspired me to be a bit more of a chance taker, or at least think about it.

    Cold Hard Truth

I went into this book with a different idea of what it was going to be, I liked it. Not mean I didn't want to read the book or I didn't think it would have good information but the life part was very interesting and told in a way that was witty and a little funny. Most Interesting was to find that the seeming cold hearted dragon had to over come disabilities and family separations in a few very hard ways that help him separate the feelings from business. Thought out the book at the end of each chapter there are summaries of the main points made and what you should have taken from it. So if your really lazy I'm sure you could get the point by read each one of these, but I would recommend the read.
