I've been a long-time fan of Jamie Oliver's relaxed, yet
exploratory cooking style. In this book, while he does cover a lot
of the basics, the book is not basic enough for a truly beginner
cook (he loves to tell you to use a "glug" of this and a "dash" of
that, which can be intimidating to non-cooks). However, if you are
even remotely adventurous in your tastes, or want to be, Jamie does
have a wonderful way of making you want to try new things and
making them sound easy to prepare. Love the addition of wine
suggestions (by type rather than label) by Mark Skinner...a
fabulous help if you're not a wine expert.
Due to the fact that this book has a very conversational style, I
found that I read it from cover to cover. Learned quite a few new
things, and made me want to go out and try cooking with a few more
unusual (for me, anyway) foods.
Would highly recommend this book for anyone who is a novice cook,
but wants to take things up a notch, or even for the more
experienced cook who would appreciate a few new, usually
easy-to-prepare recipes.
