A Dance With Dragons: A Song Of Ice And Fire: Book Five

by George R.r. Martin

Random House Publishing Group | July 12, 2011 | Hardcover

GAME OF THRONES: A NEW ORIGINAL SERIES, NOW ON HBO.

Dubbed "the American Tolkien" by Time magazine, George R. R. Martin has earned international acclaim for his monumental cycle of epic fantasy. Now the #1 New York Times bestselling author delivers the fifth book in his landmark series-as both familiar faces and surprising new forces vie for a foothold in a fragmented empire.

A DANCE WITH DRAGONS
A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE: BOOK FIVE

In the aftermath of a colossal battle, the future of the Seven Kingdoms hangs in the balance-beset by newly emerging threats from every direction. In the east, Daenerys Targaryen, the last scion of House Targaryen, rules with her three dragons as queen of a city built on dust and death. But Daenerys has thousands of enemies, and many have set out to find her. As they gather, one young man embarks upon his own quest for the queen, with an entirely different goal in mind.

Fleeing from Westeros with a price on his head, Tyrion Lannister, too, is making his way to Daenerys. But his newest allies in this quest are not the rag-tag band they seem, and at their heart lies one who could undo Daenerys's claim to Westeros forever.

Meanwhile, to the north lies the mammoth Wall of ice and stone-a structure only as strong as those guarding it. There, Jon Snow, 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, will face his greatest challenge. For he has powerful foes not only within the Watch but also beyond, in the land of the creatures of ice.

From all corners, bitter conflicts reignite, intimate betrayals are perpetrated, and a grand cast of outlaws and priests, soldiers and skinchangers, nobles and slaves, will face seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Some will fail, others will grow in the strength of darkness. But in a time of rising restlessness, the tides of destiny and politics will lead inevitably to the greatest dance of all.

I've now read the first 5 books of this series and absolutely love them, can't wait for The Winds Of Winter to be released. George R.R. Martin is a great author ands leaves you craving more, the way he writes his characters can have you love them and then hate them. Awesome read so addicting!

I think this book was the best in series so far. I can't wait until the next book is released and I am hoping it isn't too far in the future.

I suppose I'll have to get my Game of Thrones fix through HBO for now :D

    A disapointment

I have enjoyed reading the series of books. The last one was too confusing for me. It took a few chapters to begin making sense of the plot. The author tried to put too many characters in the story. After so many pages, the end is a disapointment; I feel we are no closer to understand where every little stories are going than at the beginning of the book. Too many references to legends the reader is unable to understand. Better luck with the next Mr Martin!

Your inability to understand should not impact your opinion of the book itself. The author has created an entire world, very different from our own, with an entire world's worth of characters. If you're this confused, I would suggest reading from the beginning, or reading the references in the back of the book so you're not so lost. I felt the same as you did when I started, but after a while I clued in to what was going on and finally understood its greatness.

It was 6 years ago, that I found A Song of Ice and Fire and have been waiting for this book. Perhaps that is why I never gave up, or despaired.

It is a book that leaves more questions than answers, but there is plenty of action unlike Feast, which in my opinion dragged on too much. It drastically sets up the last two novels in the series which will hopeful be coming quicker down the pipeline.
