i haven't been intrigued, spooked or excited about a book since hunger games. dark inside grabs you literally from the beginning and never let's go. if you are not reading this....leave whatever you are doing and get it. roberts is an amazing writer she will throw you in a fun, suspenseful and heart pounding series. you will not be able to put it down. just read it all ready!!! love the ending omg is all i could think. thank goodness i bought the 2nd book while i was half through dark inside. you will be flying to your local book store. also bonus it is canadian. go canada! if there is no 3rd or 4th book i'm protesting simon & schuster.

Dark Inside was totally amazing. The characters were well described and their points of view were totally amazing. I felt as though I was really there with them or seeing it though there eyes. The plot, i found, was a little slow but the events really made up for it. I couldn't believe how the book was being described and how real and emotional everything was. It was so realistic and I really though I was there and living it. Totally Amazing.

Dark Inside is really, really great. The story lines and plot are freakin' amazing, and the characters are deep and come to life before your eyes. You learn more and more about them as you read on, and, as their paths collide, it makes for an awesome book!

Reading the reviews I was not sure what to expect from this book, some say it’s good some say it’s bad. I take a middle ground in saying that it is packed with fast paced action, interesting descriptions that might make your stomach turn and mediocre dialogue between characters. It was a fast and easy read and I was still hooked enough to want to get the second book. (Warning, rest may contain mild spoilers). I’m not a fan of books where there are multiple characters with each chapter, but I have to say that was an interesting quality of this book. Seeing the end of the world from different characters really makes you appreciate the horror the apocalypse is creating. Roberts’s purposeful lack of explanation as to why this is occurring is both frustrating and page-turning; you want to find out more about why the world is going so wrong and how it might all end. The lack of potential romance within the novel is disappointing. There are some hints toward possible relationships but all characters seem to be of mind that it is too dark of a time to fall in love. I think if the end of the world was occurring people, even teenagers like those in the book, would be trying to fool around more than not. It is understandable that many are strangers but as the book progresses connections are developed but the reader is left wanting more than just hints of potential intimacy. The introduction of the character “Nothing” is an interesting add on to the novel. It provides the reader with an understanding of the other characters world view (one of the ones responsible for the chaos). One draw back is at times the “Nothing” chapters, although respectfully brief, get somewhat repetitive. All together, I would rate this book a 3.5/5 total and 4/5 for its genre.

Unputdownable isn't even a real word but it accurately discribes the feeling one gets when reading this most excellent book. I can't wait to read the next installment in the series.

Lately post-apocalypse seems to be the most popular theme for teen fiction books-and as much as I love reading them, I'm wondering when I'll get sick of them. I started to think that maybe 'Dark Inside' is going to be just like all the other ones-but I couldn't have been more wrong! Jeyn Roberts writing style is so different from other authors, and personally, I love it! I started this book one morning, and couldn't put it down! The next night, I read more than half of it, staying up until 2:00am to finish it! As tired as I was, I just couldn't stop reading. I kept telling myself that after this chapter I go to sleep, but after a little while, I just told myself to shutup and I decided to finish it. Every chapter ends in suspense! It's hard to not keep reading! I know how hard post-apocalypse stories can be to write, but Jeyn did a great job compared to some other authors. I always seem to ask myself if what I'm reading makes sense, or if it's realistic or not. Most authors don't confront things like food, or water, hygiene, and the emotions that the characters are feeling. Jeyn Roberts was spot on-she had a great explanation for everything! This book encorporates everything from action, to romance, to comedy. To sum it all up, I rate it 5 stars! *****

I finally decided to buy Jeyn Robert’s debut Dark Inside because of Chandra over at Indigo Teen Blog. She wrote a list in December of her Teen Top Ten of 2011, which featured Dark Inside as number ten. I had heard about the novel earlier, but couldn’t decide if I wanted to pick it up or not. I put it on my Christmas list and was excited to see it appear under my tree. When I finally decided to read it, I was absolutely stunned. If you’re on the fence about this one just go to the book store and read the first chapter. I can guarantee that you’ll be walking out with it. One thing I found very fresh about this book was where it started. Normally in dystopian books, the novel starts out years after the apocalypse has happened after, for the most part, society has re-established itself. Dark Inside instead starts at the apocalypse. The world as we know it ends in the first few chapters. Instead of learning about this whole new world, we see our own be destroyed from four different points of view. It’s pretty shocking, and terrifying. These characters are in the exact situation each of us would be in if the apocalypse happened. They are simply trying to survive in a destroyed world. There are no rules and no guidelines, simply the fierce will to survive. Dark Inside is one of those books that keeps you thinking even after the book is put away. I found myself wondering what would happen if I, just like Aries, were sitting on a bus when it all happens. I started looking at my own life and wondering “could I survive the apocalypse?”. Because this book isn’t about fitting into this new way of living, it’s all about trying to live in a world surrounded by death. It is a frightening book because it doesn’t offer you an escape. In other dystopians, you can think that the world simply couldn’t end up that way, that there would events to make sure that wouldn’t happen in our world. But Dark Inside is our world. It is our world in ruins. One of the scariest parts of this book is the fact that humanity is destroying itself. The concept that people you love and care about could simply switch off one day and turn against you is one of the scariest parts of this book. The horror that, although natural disasters were the catalyst, it is humans that are destroying our world, drives this book. It's not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. It is very graphic in parts, and utterly disturbing. You will not be able to tear your eyes away. The characters in this book are fantastic. They are all brave in their own ways, and they all are forced to make impossible decisions. Aries has to be my favourite. She is a firecracker with a fierce will to survive, and unmatched courage. Aries is the person I would hope to be if ever faced with this situation. The rest of the characters have to deal with their own impossible tasks, and stare defiantly into the face of death. I admire them all for it. Dark Inside will surpass every expectation you have for it. It will scare you out of your mind, question your own will survive, and make you love every second you spend reading it. Simply fantastic. There is no better phrase to describe it. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for its sequel, RAGE WITHIN, out September 2012!

I picked up The Dark Inside on a whim. I normally go for paranormal/romance teen books but something about this book called out to me (figuratively). I know post-apocalyptic books are really big right now but you will not find another one that compares to this. The book is told in the perspective of 4 different people and you find yourself truly caring about each character which is very rare for me. Jeyn Roberts did a phenomenal job at developing these characters into people you will root for. The action starts from the very first page and does not stop throughout the entire book. And for those romance junkies there is definitely enough to keep you satisfied and turning the pages. The only problem I had with this book was the ending. It came far too quickly and you just want to stay in the story as long as you can. This clearly is the first book in a series but it ends on a very good note so your not cursing the author for cutting it off to quickly. Once I put it down to go to sleep (after five hours) my mind was still haunted by everything I had just read. I know the author truly created something special when it sticks with me long after I stop reading. I normally don't take the time to write reviews for my favorite books but I had to share how I felt about Dark Inside. THE BEST BOOK OF 2011, possibly my favorite book in years. You will not be disappointed by this book.

From the first few pages, Dark Inside had me hooked. I knew that I was in for one creepy read. Dark Inside takes you right into the heart of what can only be described as the apocalypse. It doesn't explain the world afterwards or how people moved on with their lives. It simply focuses on what is going on and what lengths people go to in order to survive. It's dark and it's gritty and it doesn't shy away from the gruesome things that may occur. Dark evil force aside, everything in this book seemed very believable. I was shocked, I was disgusted, I was on the edge of my seat. There were so many moments that had me holding my breath and peering out from behind my fingers. I love when a book can get me that consumed in a story. I have just one complaint and it's a very very small one. I found the ending slightly rushed and a little anti-climatic. I don't know what I was expecting exactly, but it just didn't match what I had planned in my head. This is probably my own fault more than anyone else's. Let me stress, there was nothing wrong with the ending. It suited the story and brought together all the storylines but it just didn't give me the satisfaction I wanted. This book is one that will be interesting for young adult and adult readers alike (but be warned there is quite a bit of violence). If you like adventure stories, that also touch on questions of humanity than make sure you add this book to your TBR pile. It's thoughtful and realistic and more than once it scared the pants off me. The Good Stuff Loved it, could not put it down was even pissed at my Dr for being on time and making me have to put down the book Not stop action with lots of twists and turns, keeps you guessing Sort of reminds me of The Stand with teenagers - that's a good thing btw Great characters who develop nicely and have you cheering for them Apocalyptic, Dystopian style plot - which you may have guessed by now is a genre I very much reading about Good moral questions thrown in which could lead to some great discussions Some good humor thrown in to balance the darkness of the storyline Mason sort of reminds me of Larry Underwood from the Stand Canadian settings Enjoyed the scene with Twiggy - it was sorta darkly twisted, but kinda finny The Not so Good Stuff It just sort of ends - expected a better ending, but I understand there is going to be a sequel - if so than the end isn't that bad A little too descriptive at times with the killing -- especially mentioning the killing of children -- I'm a Mom, that sort of thing is tough for me to have to read I know its picky but many of the female characters act rather stereotypical at times with men having to save them -- would have liked a little more kick a**ness (yes I know its not a word) from them Favorite Quotes/Passages "Warning signs left behind in the ruins of ancient civilization have been misinterpreted.
