From the Publisher

After years of frequent moves following her mother's death, Chloe Saunders's life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she's not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts-everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.

At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe's small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home-charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a "thing" for fire-Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn't your usual "problem kid" behaviour. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either…

I really enjoyed this book. Kelley starts off the book by introducing us to Chloe, the main character. She is, or thinks she is, a normal teenage girl, until one day she starts seeing ghosts. From there she is placed into a grouo home for teens. Along the way she meets other kids her age who have supernatural abalities as well. They band together to break out of the group home. This book was a breeze to read, and really enjoyable. I liked being able to follow Chloe on her journey as she… read more

I suppose this was a good book but I'm not entirely sure. I feel like the author had very little going on at some points then had random 30 paged periods of a bit too much action. The ending was of course to make you really want to read the sequel but it sortta put me off it. I guess it's an opinion sort of thing... I hated it and my friend adored it a little too much.

Okay, so I read "The Summoning" while also reading LJ Smith's "Dark Visions" and I have to say that the main plot of both stories were VERY similar (teens that get shipped off to an institution/home for "experimentation" who turn out to be supernaturally gifted) but I have to say that I was really impressed with Kelley Armstrong's writing. Though I have yet to finish Dark Visions (so I won't pass judgment on that one yet), I have to say that The Summoning was much more fast faced and forced… read more
