Cate Tiernan gave what were already great characters an amazing amount of depth and made me love them even more. Darkness Falls starts off immediately following Immortal Beloved. Nas is still at River's Edge and she is doing great. But slowly things start taking a turn for the worse, weird things are happening and she has a sickening feeling that it is her inherent darkness rising up and destroying her chance for happiness. Just when her heart can't take anymore she is reunited with her best friend Innocencio and she goes with him and back to her old life. But is it really what she wants? And is Incy someone she can trust? Of course, our girl Nasty has to find out the hard way. I came into this book wanting to learn more about the supporting characters, River especially. I really like how she opened up in this book and we found out how she became the patient, understanding woman she is today (it wasn't easy I tell ya!) We also learned more about Anne and Charles which were fantastic tales unto their own. And of course, we saw more of Nas's past through more of the thrilling flashbacks. I really enjoy the use of flashbacks in this series, the history is so enchanting. She's always in a different part of the world, in a defferent century dealing with real life things. The love story in Darkness Falls was just as elusive as it was in Immortal Beloved. I wanted Nas and Reyne to ravage eachother and be done with it! But, that would be giving everything away too easily, wouldn't it? Once again the author has made you long for the love that you know is there, but has stayed true to the story of growth that is at the heart here. As frustrating as it is, it's what makes these books so damn good! The relationship between River and Nas also fluorished in this one, River opened up in a way I'm not sure she has to anyone else. This story has some great morals in it as well. Sure it's a story about immortals with magickal powers going through the motions of everyday life and trying to find something real to live for. But it is a story of good and evil, of right and wrong. It's a story that tells us that we can overcome our bad decisions of the past and become a better person in spite of it. This series digs in deep and makes you look at all the wrong choices you may have made in your life and gives you hope that you can overcome them. The quote I decided to use in this review really struck home with me, because it's true. Hiding our indiscretions and never facing the reality of them gets us nowhere. We need to face our past and learn from it. I am in love with this series and I will definitely be recommending them to anyone looking for an Alluring Read.

I read "Immortal Beloved" in a couple hours and quickly went out and purchased "Darkness Falls" (Book 2). I'm gonna keep this review simple considering if you've read the first one you probably already know the whole idea/concept. Did I absolutely love this book? Nope. It's just a like for me. After "Immortal Beloved" I was expecting for Reyn and Nastasya's relationship to further develop...but it honestly didn't. (Not in the way that I wanted to at least). The story barely focused on them. That was disappointing. I was expecting a lot of conflict between Nastasya's friends and her life at River's Edge. I especially expected there to be some sort of conflict between Incy and Reyn, which again, didn't exactly happen. I guess I wanted some sort of showdown between Reyn and Incy....or at least for Nastasya's friends to come to River's Edge and stir things up. I guess I had a lot of expectations for this book. The author had the opportunity to really take this book places. Considering that the books is called "Darkness Falls" you'd think that it would be a lot darker. But it wasn't. The darkness theme could have been amped up. I'm guessing that the next book will focus more on Reyn and Nastasya's relationship since this one barely touched on it. We're still kind of left in the dark with their whole relationship. Let's hope the next one kills, cause this one definitely didn't. Random: -They could have been more creative with the cover. It's basically a re-colored version of "Immortal Beloved" -It's the 2nd book in the trilogy. I'm gonna have to wait a while for the 3rd book considering the 2nd just recently came out. Sucks.

*Note* This is a combined review of both Immortal Beloved and Darkness Falls Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan was a novel who's title left me on the edge of indecision and discomfort. Why? I hadn't quite heard the most positive things from my fellow co-workers when the title was originally released back in 2010. It wasn't until Poppy took to giving Immortal Beloved and it's upcoming sequel Darkness Falls a complete makeover, with two new covers and a catchy synopsis, that I finally decided to dive into it. River's Edge - A Rehab For Wary Immortals My first initial thought after diving into Immortal Beloved was pure confusion. I was instantly thrust into a rather awkward and unsteady situation involving protagonist Nastasya and her companions. (Not exactly starting off on the right foot, am I right?) The dialogue behind Immortal Beloved, though, actually struck me as quite interesting. It follows the story of Nastasya, an immortal who's gone extremely far with her partying and careless ways with her "friends". In hopes of bettering herself she travels to River's Edge, a safe haven for Immortals who've lost their way. However, after her arrival, the story begins to unfurl and she begins to learn more about herself and the impending attempts on her life. An Emotionally Growing Protagonist That Amazed Me Nastasya, unfortunately, came across as rather obnoxious and incoherent in the beginning of the novel, which left me with an overwhelming feeling to put the novel aside with anger. However, after the first few uneasy and jittery chapters, I actually began to love Nastasya. She showed that she had the ability to better herself, to grow responsibly and take things into her own hands. It was rather admirable, actually! With that said, I enjoyed how Cate Tiernan brought about a realistic persona for Nastasya. Despite her being Immortal, something that you'd think wouldn't be so troublesome and emotional, I began to further see the difficulties of it all through her eyes. With that said, Immortal Beloved was filled with quite a few exciting developments that changed my overall thoughts on the novel several times before finishing it. It wasn't until Darkness Falls, however, that the true excitement and intrigue took place. The downright dark and unpredictable secrets that were revealed, in addition to rather heartbreaking developments that were earlier clued in the synopsis, left me in absolute awe! However, with Darkness Falls I found myself falling deeper into Cate Tiernan's world and Nastasya's unpredictably dramatic life. Upon completing Darkness Falls, I find myself highly anticipating the third and final novel in the Immortal Beloved trilogy! Lovers of magic, suspense, mystery, and romance will certainly want to add both Immortal Beloved and Darkness Falls to their read lists.
