DATING OUTSIDE YOUR DNA is the fourth book in Karen Kelley's Nerek
series which has introduced us to the Nerakian Planet.
Roan Hendrix is a special agent in the inter-galaxy patrol, but has
been sidelined for months with a leg injury. Wanting to get back
into active service, he is thrown for a curve when his boss tells
him that he must do one-on-one training for a new recruit before he
can resume his duties. Roan figures it is a means to an end, but he
certainly doesn't like it especially after seeing the recruit,
which throws him for another curve.
Lyraka is a half-human and half-Nerakian, with special powers who
is anxious to become a special agent. This training is just a major
step to attaining that goal. How is she to concentrate on training
when Roan brings out other special skills she has that are only
enhanced by her human side.
Roan dislikes alien Nerakians, Lyraka is agitated with always
having orders barked at her, but somewhere along the line the
mutual dislike turns to more. When Prince Banyon of Rovertia
threatens to cause a war, Lyraka must go in the field on her first
mission. Roan fights her going but loses the battle. His worst fear
is realized when Lyraka is captured by the Prince who's out to seek
revenge on the agency for the past.
In her trademark style Karen Kelley has crafted a story that has
elements for every reader, from the humor to the steamy encounters
of Roan and Lyraka and the fast paced heart pounding rescue
attempt. Roan also gets a real wake up call when coming face to
face with the realization that there is more to life than the
agency and just what he has to lose. This is an enjoyable read I
would recommend and look forward to future books by this author.
