From the Publisher

Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana, but she keeps to herself and doesn''t date much because of her "disability" to read minds. When she meets Bill, Sookie can''t hear a word he''s thinking. He''s the type of guy she''s waited for all of her life, but he has a disability, too--he''s a vampire with a bad reputation. When one of Sookie''s coworkers is killed, she fears she''s next.

    A Must Read!! 5

The book started off with action and it kept me hooked till the ending. One thing I must say is this book it’s anything but predictable, you may think you know what’s coming but never underestimate the element of surprise. Thank god when I did decided to pick this book up it was summer vacation or else I would recommend taking sometime because you will not be able to wait time to start the second one. I’m proud to say that after the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series I’m in love with… read more

    Entertaining 3

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris is the first of the Sookie Stackhouse novels and is written in first person through the eyes of Sookie. I wish I had read it before completing season one of True Blood because I knew the results of many of the events. There are some parts, however, that were not shown on True Blood. The novel became much more interesting after getting through a hundred pages. Sookie's life changes when she encounters a vampire in Bon Temps, Louisiana at her workplace… read more

Yet another author trying to jump on the supernatural bandwagon and failing. I picked up this book because I am a huge fan of Kim Harrison and I know she has done work with Charlaine Harris. This book is TERRIBLE. When I reach the point where the blatant racism of the author began to emerge, I just had to stop. Of course, racism is a common theme, but this wasn't written as this character is racist or that's just the way it is, it comes across as the author saying 'I am racist'. It's… read more

Don't skip because you love the TV series 4

As a fan of HBO's True Blood I didn't know what to expect when I picked up the first title in the True Blood series. They always say that you shouldn't read the book after you've seen the movie but in this case you can put aside that advice. The TV series stayed true to the book so there weren't too many surprises story wise but I found that reading the book was almost like encountering the story for the first time. The twists and turns were more compelling and there was more storytelling in… read more

    Light and Refreshing 5

This review is from: Dead Until Dark (Hardcover)

I found this book very refreshing. It is one of those books you love reading on a rainy afternoon just a very light and relaxed read. The characters lack depth and the plot takes a little while to get you hooked but once you are you can't help but love the book. I will definately have to read the rest of the series.

Not as good as the show but still very good 4

This review is from: Dead Until Dark (Mass Market Paperbound)

I have watched the first two seasons of the tv series first before reading the books, and while the book was very good, the show has a lot more detail while still keeping very close to the book. There was one notable exception, Tara, she's not in the first book, but I'm told she appears later. I find it amazing that there was enough in one book to make an entire season of tv, and I will definitely be reading ahead to see what happens, especially with Eric, Bill's boring. 38/1000

Dead Until Dark by Charaline Harris is the first book in the sookie stackhouse series that millions of fans around the world has come to love and enjoy. Book one introduces us to Sookis as small town waitress with the gift of reading peoples thoughts, but when Bill a Vampire come walking into the bar Sookie is so excited to hear nothing that she jumps at the chance to get to know him better and eventually they become a couple, but things are getting strange in Bon Temps people are dying and it… read more

    Good Read 3

This series is an interesting spin on the supernatural. Vampires are almost like rock stars to some who vie for their 'attention'. Their presence is new to the town of Bon Temps and aren't fully accepted by the townspeople. A mystery ensues after a string of murders. A romanctic relationship developes between a vampire and Sookie, the heroine of the story. While I was intriged by the unique talents of Sookie, I wasn't completely drawn in by her character. I found some of her… read more

I absolutely adored this book. It was a very nice read, with some murder, mystery and romance (of course - the supernatural kind) and it was well-written. This book got me hooked from page one and was a definite page-turner!

My friend recommended this book to me and I thought it was very good. I was immediately fond of the characters in the story which made it that much better. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

    Mixed feelings.... 3

This review is from: Dead Until Dark (Mass Market Paperbound)

Having been a fan of the show prior to reading the book, it took me a while to get into it. The show has better character development and additional story lines. And the sex scenes really aren't my thing, in the book. I'm not into romance novels and would rather read about vampires and other monsters. But I'll read the next in the series..... I did buy the box set afterall.
