From the Publisher

Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana, but she keeps to herself and doesn''t date much because of her "disability" to read minds. When she meets Bill, Sookie can''t hear a word he''s thinking. He''s the type of guy she''s waited for all of her life, but he has a disability, too--he''s a vampire with a bad reputation. When one of Sookie''s coworkers is killed, she fears she''s next.

Dead Until Dark by Charaline Harris is the first book in the sookie stackhouse series that millions of fans around the world has come to love and enjoy. Book one introduces us to Sookis as small town waitress with the gift of reading peoples thoughts, but when Bill a Vampire come walking into the bar Sookie is so excited to hear nothing that she jumps at the chance to get to know him better and eventually they become a couple, but things are getting strange in Bon Temps people are dying and it… read more

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris is the first of the Sookie Stackhouse novels and is written in first person through the eyes of Sookie. I wish I had read it before completing season one of True Blood because I knew the results of many of the events. There are some parts, however, that were not shown on True Blood. The novel became much more interesting after getting through a hundred pages. Sookie's life changes when she encounters a vampire in Bon Temps, Louisiana at her workplace… read more

    Good Read 3

This series is an interesting spin on the supernatural. Vampires are almost like rock stars to some who vie for their 'attention'. Their presence is new to the town of Bon Temps and aren't fully accepted by the townspeople. A mystery ensues after a string of murders. A romanctic relationship developes between a vampire and Sookie, the heroine of the story. While I was intriged by the unique talents of Sookie, I wasn't completely drawn in by her character. I found some of her… read more

    Light and Refreshing 5

This review is from: Dead Until Dark (Hardcover)

I found this book very refreshing. It is one of those books you love reading on a rainy afternoon just a very light and relaxed read. The characters lack depth and the plot takes a little while to get you hooked but once you are you can't help but love the book. I will definately have to read the rest of the series.

I absolutely adored this book. It was a very nice read, with some murder, mystery and romance (of course - the supernatural kind) and it was well-written. This book got me hooked from page one and was a definite page-turner!

My friend recommended this book to me and I thought it was very good. I was immediately fond of the characters in the story which made it that much better. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

    Mixed feelings.... 3

Having been a fan of the show prior to reading the book, it took me a while to get into it. The show has better character development and additional story lines. And the sex scenes really aren't my thing, in the book. I'm not into romance novels and would rather read about vampires and other monsters. But I'll read the next in the series..... I did buy the box set afterall.

    A great Read! 4

I decided to read this book because it seemed to be very popular, though I have never watched the tv show. I thought it was a great read, I loved the premise that the vampires live among the people and everyone knows about it. The characters are all very interesting and well written. I like that they are all a little different so I was never in a position where I confused them. Overall, a great read that I definitely recommend.

    Better than I thought 4

Okay, I thought this was going to be a chick-lit story, but you know, as I read it, I really liked it. The characters were "real" and I grew to like and hate them. It is a well written story and I will be reading the next book in this series.

I found this book to bring authentic characters to the reader in its supernatural setting. Worth the read!
