This book is amazing!!!!!!I I loved every moment of reading this book. Nicholas Sparks is my favourite romance writer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just finished this book this morning, and it was worth every moment of my time. It was so much better than the movie, even though I thought it almost impossible to love the story any more than I did. Sparks always brings tears to my eyes!

Nicholas Sparks has always been my favorite romance writer. I cannot believe a man is capable of writing such emotional and romantic books. And here I thought all men cared about was sex. Dear John is a perfect example of why Sparks proves me wrong The first chapter/prologue of this book was a little slow. I remember sitting down, reading it and wondering when John would shut up. The thing is, in that little part, John talks endlessly of his life, growing up, living with his dad, past girlfriends and friends. I would have preferred if we learned more about him throughout the book instead of all at once. Nonetheless, I soon got over it and moved on. I really enjoyed reading the story in John's point of view. It was interesting, sad, heartbreaking and emotional. I don't know why but I love reading novels that have a man/boy's POV. It's so different from what I normally read. Haven't you noticed most YA novels either have a narrator speaking or it's in the POV of a girl/women? Yeah, it gets a little old after a while. Sometimes I enjoy new things. Savannah, the women John will forever love, is a goody-to shoes. That bothered me. She whined and made excuses and overall, I could care less about her. She broke John's heart! How could I ever like her again, hm? I guess really the only reason why I hate her is because she broke John's heart. I can't help it, I love John. I feel for him. The overall story line of this was amazing. I will admit to crying at some parts. Nicholas Sparks' novels tend to do that to me. The writing is just so elegant and emotional. It definitely tugs at the heart strings. Its very moving and uplifting. Inspiring even. It was beautiful and full of love. If you like that sort of thing then you'll love this. If you're not into sappy love stories, then this is NOT for you. Rating: 5 curly pig tails Side Note: This is nothing like the movie. As I was reading along I thought to myself, "Wow, this is so different." After finishing Dear John I went ahead and watched the movie again. There was so many different things happening in the movie from the book that I just enjoyed the movie as a movie instead of a 'book into a movie.' Dear John is not the type of book that can be transformed into film. There is just know way. That said, I still suggest seeing the movie and reading the book. Both are beautiful stories; In their own way of course.

This book is amazing! I read the book before the movie came out and seeing the characters brought to life was so intreguing. Its such a great love story, I couldn't put it down for hours on end. I read this book on the beach and was crying! John and Savannah are like a modern romeo and juliet in the way that they can't be together but they are separated by the army instead. I love the idea of sending old fashioned letters instead of emails. It seems way more personal and their letters in the novel were so heartfelt and long. This book is a must read if you're a real romantic at heart.

I read this book before seeing the movie, I really enjoyed this book and the characters were easy to relate to. I loved how John changed in the book, and became a totally different person. The relationship he had with his dad was heartwarming, and seeing how devoted he was to Savannah was truly inspiring. The middle and end of this book were dramatic and sad but very interesting nonetheless. If you like other Nicholas Sparks books you will like this one as well!

I started my Sparks love with this novel. Ever since I read this novel I have been a #1 Sparks fan. Haven't stopped reading him since.

Dear John is definitely a book that you will not leave your hands until its finished, took me less than 24 Hours to finish. Emotionally heartbreaking and beautifully written, Sparks writes a story that is easy to relate to at any age and made me cry. Savannah and John give people the desire to find love as true as theirs.

It's been a while since I've read a book by Nicholas Sparks. My last one was Message in a Bottle. Sparks has found a winning formula as he has eight New York Times bestsellers to his credit. My experience has been that they all tug at your heartstrings and Dear John is no exception. John Tyree is home on leave from the army when he meets Savannah Curtis. Their time together is short lived, but they quickly fall in love. John must return to his squad, but Savannah vows she will will wait for him. His time is almost up when 9/11 strikes and John re enlists. Can their love survive further time apart? I listened to this in audio format. Holter Graham was the reader. I'm not sure if he naturally speaks with a Southern accent, but once in awhile I would find it slipping. He played John with a slow southern drawl that at times made him seem simple. Savannah's voice was easily identifiable, with a slightly different southern accent and a quicker manner of speaking. I think the story is an excellent one, especially in today's times, when this scenario is being played out in many lives. Sparks finishes his tale with a different twist, again designed to make you reach for a tissue. Now this is purely personal and I'm sure there will lots of dissenting opinions, but... I just didn't like Savannah. I found her overbearing, manipulative, selfish and too much of a know it all. I often wonder if in listening to an audio book, you form a different picture of a character than you might have in reading the book. I then watched the movie trailer and with the characters played by Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried , think I may change my mind again. So, yes if you're looking for a heart string tugging read, this is definitely one for you. I'm more of an action girl myself, so found some of it a bit repetitive and slow going but I did enjoy the story.

This book hit so close to home! My husband is in the Army and there are so many things that make the characters seem like us in book. I read this book when my hubby was deployed in Iraq and reenlisting, and believe it or not I just got done with a Lowe's Woman Build Habitat for Humanity project I was doing to keep busy. My hubby has been known to have a temper problem. And I am that type of college girl, except I gave up my college for the time to marry him. And... my hubby used to actually work with horses and help autistic children. I have always loved horses. The characters sound so much like us its scary, but hopefully our ending will be different, lol!
