From the Publisher

A delightfully dishy novel about the all-time most impossible boss in the history of impossible bosses.

Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, lands the job "a million girls would die for." Hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the high-profile, fabulously successful editor of Runway magazine, Andrea finds herself in an office that shouts Prada! Armani! Versace! at every turn, a world populated by impossibly thin, heart-wrenchingly stylish women and beautiful men clad in fine-ribbed turtlenecks and tight leather pants that show off their lifelong dedication to the gym. With breathtaking ease, Miranda can turn each and every one of these hip sophisticates into a scared, whimpering child.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA gives a rich and hilarious new meaning to complaints about "The Boss from Hell." Narrated in Andrea's smart, refreshingly disarming voice, it traces a deep, dark, devilish view of life at the top only hinted at in gossip columns and over Cosmopolitans at the trendiest cocktail parties. From sending the latest, not-yet-in-stores Harry Potter to Miranda's children in Paris by private jet, to locating an unnamed antique store where Miranda had at some point admired a vintage dresser, to serving lattes to Miranda at precisely the piping hot temperature she prefers, Andrea is sorely tested each and every day-and often late into the night with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get Andrea a top job at any magazine of her choosing. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, however, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not the job is worth the price of her soul.

    Wasn't bad 3

If I could have given this book a maple leaf and a half I would have. It was really hard to get into this book, I had to force myself to finish it so that I could know how it finished. Lauren Weisberger's next novel "Everyone worth knowing" is MUCH better, I suggest reading that one.

The Devil Wears No Name 1

After falling absolutely head over heals in lust with the movie The Devil Wears Prada, I decided to give the novel a try. My friend was always on my case to read it, saying it was “the best novel ever” and I honestly never had the chance to read it besides I thought it would be superficial, shallow and stupid… and I was right. Although the movie focuses on the actual characters, the novel focuses on clothes. The amount of times I had to read what each character wore for each day was… read more

i could take on the devil... 2

This review is from: The Devil Wears Prada (Hardcover)

i found it difficult to get into this one. It definitely caught my initial interest: the trials and trivials of entering the work force and landing ' a dream job that millions of girls would die for'... but that was shortlived and the remaining chapters went into great detail of the anxieties/pressures from working at a major fashion mag. and under the wings of a neurotic, influential, demanding editior in chief: the devil herself. The outrageous scenarios that were presented to Andrea were… read more

    Laugh out loud hilarious! 5

I thought this book was absolutely hilarious. Many times I laughed out loud and some of the amazing situations the main character found herself in. I loved how I was able to really hate Miranda yet at the same time understand her. I also loved the ongoing comentary about the fashion industry and how it objectifies women. All in all, if your looking for a light, funny book to pass your time away this is the book for you.

This is such a fun read, I couldn't put it down. Provides a good and fun image of what life in New York fashion is all about. The comedy was fantastic. A must read in my opinion...Can't wait to see the movie version.

Great if you skip over the fashion bits 3

I enjoyed the book and read it pretty much to the end in one sitting because I was curious to see what would happen to Andy after 1 year on the job. I eventually took to skipping the Prada/Gucci/Jimmy Choo ravings in favour of reading the more interesting parts of the story. All in all I was drawn in to the story and bored by the whining at the same time.

    Meh. 1

This review is from: The Devil Wears Prada (Hardcover)

Considering this book was promoted as a thinly veiled exposé of Anna Wintour's reign of terror at Vogue magazine it came off as quite a boring read. The average episode of Fashion Television tends to be much juicier. It didn't help that the protagonist, who seems to think she's quite down to earth, comes off as an unsympathetic, condescending snob. There were several times throughout the book where I was hoping someone would strangle her with one of the oft mentioned Hermès scarves. I'm… read more

    A guilty pleasure 4

Overall the Devil Wears Prada is a worthwhile read for those lazy, lay in the sun summer days. The combination of humour and well-developed, interesting characters will pull you in and make you not want to put the book down until the end. Even though the book tends to drag on a little near the end, it is a great read.

Such a great read for anyone whose had a less than perfect boss! As a personal assistant I can see where Andrea is coming from but this book relates to everyone whose come out of school and started working in the "real world". Great book!
