Dewey is a light and uplifting story than any cat lover would enjoy. However, the book isn't very well-written, and reads more like a casual blog post of ramblings than a novel. If you take it for what it is and don't expect much from it, it does entertain, even if it isn't memorable.

I enjoyed this book so much that I have read it twice! Dewey sounds like he was a special cat. This book is also about the author's life, explaining how much Dewey helped her. This is not another cutesy animal story.

This novel was ok. Not bad but not great either. I enjoyed the story but there was parts when she talked about the town and her personal life and what not. I bought the book because I wanted to read a cute cat story and it really kinda of irked me when she went on and on about stuff I really just didn't care about and I wasn't sure why it was in the book in the first place. On the other hand, I liked the book because for the most part it was what I wanted, (cute cat story.) I laughed a lot at Dewey's antics and it made me happy when I read about how much people liked Dewey. Oh and I loved the little pictures at the beggining of each chapter. Not something I would re-read but I did enjoy it for the time being. I would recommend for cat lovers.

"Dewey" is a pleasant read, but not exactly a page turner. If I were being honest here, and I think you would like me to be, I would say that throughout most of the book I was thinking, "What's the point?" I understand that this poor little guy was dropped by someone in the book return slot on one of the coldest nights of the year in Spencer, Iowa, and that the Librarian, Vicky, found him and instantly he became a fixture at the local library. Got it. But the book does lay it on a little thick on how much of a super hero this cat is. Don't get me wrong, I AM a cat person. I HAVE a cat. And I love her to pieces. And one of the best things about reading this was the very typical cat shinanigans that Dewey would partake in in the library. You know, the finding of Dewey in various boxes, some too small so half of his body would be lazily overflowing; the paw lashing out at the typewriter carrier everytime it loudly gets clacked to the other side. That kind of thing. And Vicky had a hard life, she is a breast cancer survivor, and also got through a horrible divorce, and her relationship with her daughter is strained to the max. That is until Dewey comes along. And the book goes even further with Dewey becoming uber famous (which he did) and claiming that through his noteriety he, quite literally, saved the town of Spencer. That through Dewey throngs of tourists came to the local library and thus spent money and brought world-wide attention to the town. I'm not doubting this happened, it was just the way in which the author wrote about it that had me rolling my eyes a few times. Boy, do I sound like a crabby reviewer or what? What kind of reviewer doesn't like a nice heartwarming book about a library kitty! Okay, maybe this is all sounding a little harsh. The thing is I didn't NOT like it so much as I have no feelings about the book whatsoever. It just left me... meh. You know what I mean? In fact I'm staring at it now thinking, "What actually happened in this book?" But hey, what do I know, considering it was #1 on the New York Times Bestsellers list! The book was good for the cat shinanigans, good for the heartwarming parts with Vicky and Dewey and other patrons of the library. The sections where Dewey helped kids with special needs, for example, were so sweet! And he really did seem extraordinary in many ways

Vicki has given Dewey a 10th life with this book! It was great! I feel like I know Dewey even if I have never been to Spencer. This is the only biography I would read agian, it's the only bio that I have wanted to read more and more of. Vicki has done a great job of capturing Dewey's life, as I said before, his 10th 5 of 5

A wonderfully touching and inspiring story about a kitten abandoned in a library drop box, and adopted by a town. Any animal lover will enjoy this emotional recount about how one little cat made such a large difference in the life of a small town, and how he left his mark on the world..

I really enjoyed this book - it was a really easy read and very sweet

I'm so happy I bought this book. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. This is a very heart-warming story about an amazing cat and an amazing woman as well as many other people who came in contact with "Dewey" the cat. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you will surely be telling others about this book. Try to read the last few chapters at home so you don't have to fight back the tears. I wish I could have met Dewey, Vicki and all the wonderful people at the library in Spencer.

I really did like this story, as it is a demonstration of the effect that an animal can have on its community. It is really a shame that libraries, and other community places, don't have animals to warm up the place. If you are looking for a cat version of Marley and Me, this isn't it. The author doesn't have quite the personality for it. The ending, as in any story about an animal, may make you shed a tear, so don't read the ending of the book in a public place! Overall, a great read for animal lovers.

I think I should start off by saying that I'm a huge cat lover, and anything containing a cute kitty will immediately catch my attention. I was smitten with Dewey as a kitten, and that feeling lasted throughout the book. I could completely relate to a lot of Dewey's quirky behaviour because I see my cats doing the same thing, especially when it comes to being picky about what flavors of food they like. I enjoyed the author’s descriptions of her special bond with Dewey, and I adored her descriptions of how Dewey bonded with others. I truly believe that cats know when someone is feeling down and needs some extra affection, and Dewey is a perfect example of that. Dewey made me smile, laugh, and feel the need to go give my cats a hug! My only complaint with this book is that sometimes the author would start talking about her personal life or the town's problems, and I found it hard to focus on these parts of the book. Normally, I wouldn’t mind reading about someone’s life or the town they live in, but I was so focused on Dewey and his adorable antics, that I found myself skimming these parts in search of more Dewey cuteness. The story of Dewey was truly heart-warming. He was a special cat who touched thousands of lives and was greatly loved. The ending of this book left me crying, but overall, it was an inspiring, beautiful, and happy story. I would highly recommend this book to animal lovers or anyone looking for something that will leave them feeling warm and fuzzy inside!
