This book is better than the first, and I would have to say I'm
glad I suffered through the Gunslinger to get to here. But I still
wasn't overly thrilled.
I like the style of writing more in this book I feel like King is
trying to entertain me versus wow me with his deeply intellectual
writing skills. The new characters were definitely much more
engaging than those in the first book, and I loved the doors to the
other worlds. But I want more of that, Roland's world is beyond
boring to me and I'd rather hear more of what was going on in
Odetta and Eddies.
I think what I'm having trouble with is that I had high
expectations for this series since it was recommended to me by more
than one person, but it's just not living up to those expectations.
And what I find most frustrating is that in order to understand
what's going on with the Tower and why Roland's world has 'moved
on' I need to read thousands more pages, I feel like there is so
much beating around the bush and I really just want to get to the
meat of the story.
All that complaining be said I will (and did) read the third book.
