This story is a great family read. It is wonderfully repetative and y little three year old was able to read the whole book after a few reads through together just because of the rhythm of the story and the rhyming. Beautifully illustrated, a book that I will hand down to my other child and to my many friends with children.

    A long time favourite

My mom bought this book for my sister and myself when we were children. It was a favourite then, and I count it to be one of my favourites now. This is the first book I reach for when buying a gift for a baby shower.

This book was one of my favorite children's books. I read it repeatedly to my three daughters beginning at 18 months up to three or four years old. It is a lovely rhyming story, which encourages interaction with the reader through an I-spy game. It combines characters from a variety of nursery rhymes in a fun and creative way. The illustrations are clear and beautifully drawn, with excellent attention to the details of the story. At the end for example, the number of plates piled up for the picnic were the exact number needed for all the characters to attend the picnic. I highly recommend it!

Employee Review Nancy from Chapters # 924, Red Deer, AB

Delightfully illustrated with watercolours, these authors once again use the nursery rhyme and fairy tale characters found in their earlier Jolly Postman letters-in-pockets books. Rhyme and repetition make this an excellent choice for an emergent reader aged 5-6. Each illustration vividly portrays one nursery rhyme character, and provides visual hints of the next to come. Once readers internalize the pattern and the rhyming scheme, it's very easy for them to successfully predict the words to follow on the next page.
