From Our Editors

Rhymed text and illustrations invite the reader to play "I Spy" with a variety of Mother Goose and other folklore characters

From the Publisher

And as the story unfolds, very young children can spy familiar nursery characters hiding in the colorful pictures. There''s Tom Thumb, Jack and Jill, and the Three Bears, as well as Baby Bunting and a host of others. A marvellously entertaining romp for the youngest reader.

About the Author

Janet Ahlberg was born in Huddersfield, England in 1944 and brought up in Leicester. Originally trained as a teacher in Sunderland from 1963 to 1966, Ahlberg was encouraged to paint and draw. She decided that keeping charge of a class was very hard work so she decided to develop her artistic ability and went to study graphic design at Leicester Polytechnic for three years. She met and married Allan Ahlberg and began to illustrate books for children, first with Night published in 1972, and then with The Brick Street Boys series, written by her husband. Since then, she and Allan Ahlberg have worked together successfully. Another series, also written by Allan Ahlberg, is Happy Families, published by Puffin Books. In 1978, Ahlberg was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal for Each Peach, Pear, Plum. Ahlberg is a two time winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal having won again in 1991for The Jolly Christmas Postman. She was awarded the Kurt Maschler Awards in 1986 for The Jolly Postman: or Other People's Letters, whoch sold over a million copies worlwide. Sadly Janet Ahlberg died in 1994 at the age of 50 after suffering from cancer

Allan Ahlberg was born in 1938 in South London, and grew up in the Black Country. He worked as a teacher, postman, grave digger, soldier and plumber¿s mate before he became a full-time writer. He met his wife and creative partner, Janet at teacher training college. It was because Janet wanted to illustrate a book that Allan wrote his first book, the Brick Street boys. After that, together they wrote 37 books. Janet died in 1994 and Ahlberg discontinued his writing career for a few years before picking it up again.

An excellent "hide and seek" book full of fun rhymes and excellent illustrations. The story cleverly combines characters from several nursery rhymes. This book makes a great gift for newborns through to 3 year-olds. Our copy is quickly wearing out from repeated reading.

Janet and Allen Ahlberg's Each Peach Pear Plum is a delightful book that appeals both to children and adults. The book brings characters from several best-loved nursery rhymes and stories together in a ramble that winds around to bring them all together in a whimsical picnic at the end. This is an "I spy" book, making reading an active, challenging experience even for those who haven't yet learned to read the words;on each page, a particular character takes centre stage while others… read more

This story is a great family read. It is wonderfully repetative and y little three year old was able to read the whole book after a few reads through together just because of the rhythm of the story and the rhyming. Beautifully illustrated, a book that I will hand down to my other child and to my many friends with children.

This book was one of my favorite children's books. I read it repeatedly to my three daughters beginning at 18 months up to three or four years old. It is a lovely rhyming story, which encourages interaction with the reader through an I-spy game. It combines characters from a variety of nursery rhymes in a fun and creative way. The illustrations are clear and beautifully drawn, with excellent attention to the details of the story. At the end for example, the number of plates piled up for the… read more

My mom bought this book for my sister and myself when we were children. It was a favourite then, and I count it to be one of my favourites now. This is the first book I reach for when buying a gift for a baby shower.

I was very happy I bought this book as a board book as it has had to withstand hundreds of readings and two children. Like the equally fantastic book "Peepo" (by the same authors) this book is beautifully and thoughtfully illustrated, and the rhymes are clever and a great intro to other nursary rhymes.

My mother bought this book for my son when he was just a newborn, she had continued to read it to him and he is now 18 months old. he loves this book so much we have to buy him a new copy because he chewed most of the pages up and and has manhandled it bringing it back to her continuous times throughout the day to be read to him over and over again. I think that this book is amazing for young children and all mothers or grandmothers should have it for their child.

This is a wonderful book for children of all ages. My 18-month old has loved this book since she was 6 months old. The rhythm and the language holds her attention time after time. The pages have detailed drawings that appeal to both young children and older children. After several readings, you'll be reciting the poem by heart!
