Edge of hunger is the first of rhyannon byrd's primal instinct
series.
Ian buchanan has always known that he was different because of his
crazy mothers stories and the feeling deep in the pit of his
stomach and of course his dreams where his inner monster is
unleashed and it succumbs to their wildest desires, but lan keeps
ignoring it he is determined to have a normal life, and all is
going fairly well until molly stratton comes up his path and
changes everything.
Molly says that she has been sent to find him and deliver a message
from his mother, the thing is that his mom has been dead for the
past 6 years so of course he doesnt believe her he thnks shes a con
artist until she shows him the bite marks on her neck.
Ian is stunned into silence as molly tells him that she physically
felt the dream he had of her, theway he took the way he took her
over and over again in every way possible way before his fangs
decended and fed off her.
When molly is finished teling the tale lan knows its true and that
he is starting to turn into the monster the merrick, a merrick is a
creature that i can only describe as half shifter and half vampire
but not exactly either.
An enemy is near, that was the message from his mother and the
enemy is a creature called a casus it is a dark scary as hell
creature that takes a human host and survives on savagely killing
women, but not before they rape them however a merrick is what they
truly need and everytime a merrick is awakened its feasting time
for a casus
Now that lan knows what he is and what he has to do he tries to
stay away from molly, but it only weekens him, luckily he has the
help of the watchmen, a group of lycan that "watch" the creatures
of the otherworld. They teach him how to fight the casus using the
cross but the only way to truly defect them is to let the merrick
out and do that he must take the blood of his true love {molly}
while inside her.
This was a great start to the series but it's not for the light
hearted. There is a lot of talk of rape and murder of women
something i really wish wasnt in this book.I would of have enjoyed
it even more
